The various government/law-enforcement agencies that grant the permits can only give authorization for their own jurisdiction and those of other agencies that agree to honor their permits (willignly or by influence of a higher jurisdiction, such as state laws forcing counties to recognize each other's permits.) The Feds "own" the juridiction in this case, and they aren't "in on the agreement".
States may also have laws against carrying a firearm in establishments that serve alcohol. There are also city & county buildings & courthouses that don't allow you to carry a weapon.
Private entities can always make their own rules as well. Not laws, but rules.
You know all cops are required to carry a sidearm at all times, right?
Well, I worked with one who once left his fanny pack with pistol in a shopping cart at the supermarket.
Do you think his Sergeant said, "Ah well, oversights happen. Don't do it again."?
No. He was suspended. Damn near lost his job.
My point is, if you "forget" where you have a gun, then you DAMN SURE SHOULD HAVE YOUR CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT REVOKED. But then, people who love guns but have never had to shoot anyone always conveniently overlook stuff like that.
I don't know what all the fuss is about. It's not the first time somebody has forgotten about a pistol and gotten in trouble at the airport. It happens fairly often.
Totally. Had a client once that was a former landman for a large oil company. When he travelled in West Texas, he always had his six-shooter with him. While out in the boonies one time, he got a call saying "git back here right now" and had to haul ass to the airport in Midland for a flight back to OK City. Well, of course, he had his gun in his briefcase and tried to go through security.
His quote: "If ya wanna see just how many cops and security guys there are in a small airport, go through security with your gun in your briefcase."
...why he needs to be carrying a weapon anyway. Doesn't he believe his Heavenly Father will protect him? And if Heavenly Father by himself isn't sufficient, doesn't he have his miraculous garments to protect from harm? Isn't carrying a gun a sign that this person is really putting his faith in an arm of flesh? How can such a faithless person appear with a straight face to speak at a Ward Fireside about faith? Aren't his actions speaking so much louder than his words?
I don't blame security for taking it seriously. That is the nature of good security. They can't blow it off because it was unintentional even when they know it was unintentional.

Sometimes the gun is just taken for granted and forgotten about and this is what happened in this case. He won't do it again! It's newsworthy as it is something they deal with at the airports on a daily basis. It's a good reminder that it's serious business to have a gun in your carry on luggage at the airport. Very serious. The whole point is to catch the "bad guys" but once in awhile, the "good guys" mess up too!!
