We are going to SIL's for turkey day. The eagle thing is on Saturday. We can get out of it because we thought of leaving on the day of it anyways. We have a friend that will be in our town that wants to visit us.

Do we go to be supportive of our nephew? If so what should we expect?

It's not churchy except for the prayers. And hopefully, the eaglets mother will not wax too sappy. For my son's Eagle COH, I spoke about the meaning of Eagle to Native Americans, the reason our founding fathers chose it as the national symbol, the meaning of Eagle as a spirit guide. Nothing churchy at all.

It's quite a proud moment when the young man goes and joins the Eagle's Nest.

Go.

P.S. There's cake. And it's probably Costco.

I agree. Although it might be conducted in the "cultural hall" of an LDS building, there won't be anything innately Mormon about the ceremony. Don't worry.

The guy in charge of my stepson's court of honor asked my son (who is a non-Mo Eagle Scout himself) to command the presentation of the colors part.

Since my son was new to the area, I thought it was cool that they included him in his step-brother's COH, and of course he could be part of the Eagles' Nest too.

It wasn't especially churchy. I was very proud of both of my sons.
