Milamber made me think of an incident from my mission involving less-actives

Back in the early 90s when I was serving in the South, they were baptizing and having new converts go inactive like Hotcakes.

So a bishop in a ward tired of having to follow up with all these people got the bright idea of sending out a form letter where he asked them if they wanted to remain and member or not so he wouldn't have to deal with following up with all these inactives, and was immediately replaced with another bishop who was willing to waste his time keeping track of all these people.
