Everyone with facial hair is evil.

Daniel Peterson Logic 101:

1. A feather is light, not heavy.

2. Light is the opposite of dark.

3. A feather cannot be black. (From 1 & 2)

(head explodes)

In this one Peterson reminds me of a high-priced call girl talking to a favorite client and telling him what a stud he is...

Cabdriver Conclusion: I don't think he was talking to us with this one (were you, Denial, Ol' Boy?)

How about a little history of the Kirtland "Anti-Banking Society"?

How about the words of LDS Historian Richard Bushman on PBS's "The Mormons" where he talks about that financial collapse and how those things bothered Joseph so much he had to do what he did... Which was skip town with Sidney Rigdon...

Okay, a Golden Oldie Holiday re-run... From Samuel W. Taylor's "Nightfall at Nauvoo":

>Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To the faithful Joseph was the prophet of God, speaking the Lord's inspired word. To the skeptic he was a "compound of ignorance, vanity, arrogance, coarseness, stupidity and vulgarity." His brethren related with awe how Joseph at times became so overcome by the spirit of revelation that he had to be carried home; scoffers said it wasn't the spirit of God, but ardent spirits from a bottle. They called him a bar-room fiddler. His sermons were inspiring to believers for their simplicity and plain-spoken truths; others claimed them to be full of profanity and blasphemy, and accused Joseph of taking the stand while intoxicated. A visitor to the city related that, surprised to find Joseph under the influence, he asked how a person in his position could be known to use liquor. In reply the prophet smiled disarmingly and said he drank deliberately to prove himself human to his people; unless he showed weakness, he said, they tended to idolize him.

(pp. 79-80)

Hmmm, I wonder if he used that "weakness" line when he was talking the young plural-wives-to-be out of their knickers...

"I know sister, I am weak for being so smitten by your charms. God has told me of your weakness as well. Let us join together and acknowledge it before the Almighty and celebrate His Glory."

Article Summary:

So as a young man Joseph Smith Jr testified (for something in his own family's self interest) and told the truth (or at least gave a convincing performance). Therefore everything Joseph Smith Jr has ever said must therefore be true.

Lets apply similar logic....
Joseph Smith's colon was full of sh*t.
Joseph Smith's colon was part of Joseph Smith.
Therefore Joseph Smith was full of sh*t.

Call me paranoid.

People who are very familiar with Mitt Romney and with Joseph Smith can clearly see where they have lied and distorted over the years. I wonder if associating Mitt with his church is inviting some comparisons when people investigate both. While I don't accuse Romney of the abuses of Smith, Romney makes use of the cult's tricks of deflection in interviews on many subjects. His cavalier, arrogant attitude toward truth and disclosure has distanced him from many people. That's why more don't "like" or "trust" him.

Once again Peterson has confounded the enemies of the church and laid to waste the typical anti-mormon lies about Joseph Smith!

This article proves JS is a prophet! How? Elementary my friends. You see, as Peterson points out, JS's family was involved in a legal dispute when he was 13. JS was called as a witness in the trial. JS told the truth on the stand. The jury agreed with the Smith family and awarded them a the judgement.

If JS told the truth in the trial when he was 13, then it stands to reason that JS always tells the truth at all times during his life.

I am sure guys like Bernie Madoff never told the truth or turned a good deed in their lifetimes.

No. It's all black and white, and that is why us worldly folks are fools. If JS told the truth when he was 13, then by damn he always told the truth. That shores up my doubts. See you all in sac. meeting this Sunday!

testimony about how no one talked smack about the Smith's until after the visions (meaning the angel moroni). William Smith was not talking about the first vision there, he meant the angel moroni, and why? CBecause Smith never told anyone about his supposed first vision until more than a decade after it suppsedly happened. Brigham Young went to his deathbead preaching that Smith never saw god, only angels and so, apparently did Smith's brother William.

"Before he reached puberty, Joseph had no reason to lie . . ."

Or did they not mention that in the article?

Daniel has bee watching too much TV courtroom drama. The courtcase proves nothing of Joseph's truthfulness.

All it shows it that the jury of land owners found denying Hurlbutt the best solution.

Could be because they disliked Hurlubtt.
Or were tired of his business shenanigans they too had already experienced.
Or found his in-court behavior annoying and delaying what they could be more productively involved with.
Or because they were bribed.
Or that JS was a good liar and deceiver already at 13 having been coached in gold digging by his family.
Or Hurlbutt had a crappy case.

OK so this means that:

1) Everyone who has ever testified in court is truthful

2) Anyone who testified on the winning side of the case is even more truthful.

Therefore Joseph Smith is as truthful as OJ Simpson & Casey Anthony. (Never mind if they actually testified or not - we've already stretched logic far enough that it is irrelevant.)

Not to be preachy or anything, BUT.. It says in the bible that no one is worthy enough to look at God. You'll instantly die... Houston, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

That one's easy to get around.

The bible clearly meant that you can't look at god without being transfigured. Clearly JS was transfigured before he met God so he was exempt.

See it's easy. If you know it has to be true, you can always find a "logical" explanation.

I hear that, but...

I asked a Jewish friend about that scripture ( its in OT) and they said No, Its literal and you'll die. They won't even say God by the Y name cause they aren't worthy to do so...

When Indy's like, "Don't look Mariam!"?

And those ghosts were like, "OoooOOOOoooOOOOOOoooooO!"?

And the Nazis were like, "She's beautiful!"?

And then their heads were like, "SlppashshskkshsshhKablooeeey!"?

Is that what happens when you see god?

JS was a credible witness and 13, so therefore incapable of deception throughout his life? Not a very good argument if you ask me.

Is it not more than a little suspicious that LDS Inc employs so many weapons of psychological warfare?

In other words, the entire religion is really based on constant, consistent, and changing apologists. This 'religion' actually has 'General Conference' twice a year to put out the political and theological fires it starts.

LDS Inc does not have well thought out theology, and requires such things as monthly testimoney meetings, seminary, institute, busywork, etc including the ultimate phychological indoctrination of a mission to keep its members convinced in the sham.

Other religions do not need to make constant changes (and I think we will have a big new relvelation on homosexuality shortly) based on marketing models.

The psychological weaponry of LDS Inc.is actually far more advanced than the theology. The only way this has been able to work for as long as it has, is through the careful filtering, concealing, and discouragement of outside information, ala North Korea. LDS Inc cannot control the internet, which is probably the real reason for their war on pornograghy, and ultimately the membership will see how they have been duped. And the membership will not be happy with LDS Inc at that poing in time.

The internet is where religions come to die. It cannot be contained, and LDS Inc, I think, is in a massive money hoarding spree because the leadership sees the handwriting on the wall.

Can you imagine the backlash from the general membership if there was a revelation reversing the church's stance on homosexuality? Speaking of heads exploding...

I have read some accounts of the backlash of the 1978 revelation with members resigning or going inactive because of the blacks getting the priesthood. If the church is hemorrhaging members now, why would they shoot themselves in the foot with such a controversial revelation? Or would that be the way to save the whole thing? Mission companionship and priesthood meetings would take on an entirely different meaning--

ROTFLMAO.

Why should I trust Dr. Peterson when he says that Joseph Smith was truthful?

Dr. Peterson is on this video at 0:50 mentioning a horse before Columbus in the upper midwest:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkydMSmv1Zo&feature=player_embedded

That Spencer Lake horse hoax had been exposed in 1964. How truthful is Dr. Peterson for perpetuating a known hoax?

Interesting that his own brother, one of his followers, had to go back 50 years to find an example of Joseph telling the truth.

Really? The guy himself was not trustworthy and always in trouble‚— even when Joseph was alive. A number of times he came to blows with Joseph. It appears that he was hooking up with women and them denying it (sound familiar?) After JS dies the Church refused to sustain him as Church Patiarch because of his activities and he was finally ex-ed.

All of this and he's the one that DCP is relying on? Wow.
