I sure hope that they are legally forbidden to own any and all types of firearms.

I used to carry a gun with me to Church. Of course that was towards the end of my membership, and after I had become a cop, and started noticing the warning signs of demented minds and psychopaths in so many of my fellow congregants.

I had a police detective/primary teacher growing up who carried at Church too, then went ex-Mormon and told me it was for the same exact reason.

For the record, I thought the most likely situation for me needing it was that I might have to arrest one of my fellow church members, and it usually helps people cooperate when they know you are armed. We had a lot of loons in our ward.

They can get away with pointing out these folks are not representative of most Mormons...

What they won't be able to get away with is the long history of "LDS Revisionism"; there is too much information out there and two many credible historians who know the facts.

is a reference to D&C 77:6-7 (which in turn references Revelation 5:1). The Seventh Seal represents the seventh thousand years of Earth's temporal existence.

In other words, it is referring to a Mormon belief that Earth is six thousand years old, and the loosing of the seventh seal is supposed to usher in the seventh thousand years or the millenium which will follow Christ's second coming.

Whoever wrote "7 years of famine" has no clue what famine is.

By the way, why do Mormons always choose superhero avatars? You can tell it's a Mormon forum by the avatars. LOL.

I too noticed the Mormon avatars. One idiot put up Keanu Reeves from the Matrix. I think they fancy themselves heroes in the service of a great secret society.

And what difference does it make what "seal" you're in?
When I was teetering as a TBM, one thing I wondered is what difference does the timing of the second coming make? In the last few years before Y2K there were periodic comments made at church about the significance of 2000 in terms of the "7 Seals" and the 2nd coming. Regardless of Y2K, Mormon lore often revisited the second coming with trite rumors that are recycled every generation.
But it makes no difference when it would be. What would you do differently?
Actually, it seems like you should store that extra ammo if the 2nd orgasm is further away, not closer. You're not gonna need all that gas and beans & bullets AFTERWARDS are you?
The whole end-of-time paranoia is ignorant and stupid. It's a hobby for hicks.
Am I to take it that we're less than 6,000 years into the 7,000 year storyline of the world? We know quite surely that civilization already existed 10,000 years ago, that nomads arrived in the Americas at least 15,000 years ago, That modern humans had fully colonized the Old World 50,000 years ago, and that archaic humans had at least 1,000,000 years ago.

I call BS

I buy lots of food and ammo, but it has nothing to do with the second coming, or the next American civil war. I just enjoy shooting as a sport. I think a lot of these guys who share a love of the sport start to believe all this crazy stuff because shooting is an expensive hobby and they feel like they have to justify it to themselves. If your a Mormon or an Evangelical Christian, there is going to be a lot of guilt that you are not giving that money to your church.

haha. those guys are better than television.

but, per the d&c (sec 77) didn't the seventh seal allegedly open over a decade ago? with no notable change in the world. it's got to be causing some cog dig for some people.

We've had people go missing for days and had to send helpful sorts out to pry the mouse out of their hands...

Now am I allowed to grumble about the troll who showed up yesterday? I guess he wasn't spoofing, but one of my best "funnies" was collateral damage...

Okay, I'm headed over to the Hitchens/Slate essay to check for stragglers...

Too bad it all got deleted.

Agree about the deletions part... Anyway, I'm back from the Slate site, and I just got into a bit of a barroom brawl with an apologist who tried to break a Koolaid pitcher over my head...

That one was aggravating, too, because I'd cleaned the cookies out of the browser, and the damn software "ate" my first attempt when I had to log back in (memory is starting to get just a few worn cogs these days; should've known better because it's happened before--although not all the time. I think it's when I include a link or two, and the "spamdar" goes off).

Anyway, I re-did the whole thing from scratch and got out the cattle prods for the ol' bullshipper... He tried "let's play historian," and he warn't very good although he spoke passable Reformed Nibleyese. Here's a sample of his other stuff on the subject of church culture and dogma...

> I think you've probably got less than 50% of members who pay it [tithing], and yeah, if you want to marry in a temple, then you've got to pay it, and not smoke, and not drink, and not have sex with anyone but your wife or husband. But you can still go to church, and you can still go if you drink, smoke, have sex, are homosexual, or whatever. How is that any different from other churches? The temple is a step up, but it is not a requirement to be a Mormon. If you're ready to make the above commitments, then it's there for you.
