That the Mormon church is going to face a serious crisis in the near future, something that either significantly weakens the church or forces it to make substantial changes? Because my family is still trapped in the church I want to hope that something bad is in the process of happening to LDS Inc. I don't expect the church to disappear entirely but I would like to see it shrink in size and marginalized.

Is that hope unfounded? What say ye?

The presidential run of Mitt Romney is our great hope. Nothing brings all the scum to the top like an election. The opposition will stop at nothing to demand transparency, bring light to crazy beliefs, compare statements made throughout lifetime, etc.

Don't think for a moment that these researchers are not suffering through hours of monotone sacrament talks trying to find something controversial that Mitt Romney said at a church service, or even that was said at a church service where he was in attendance.

The hubris that lead church leadership to believe they could withstand the scrutiny caused by a presidential run by their Golden One, their One Mighty and Strong, their one true handsome male white Priesthood example to all of how the Lord blesses those he truly loves enough to allow them to legally steal the money earned by others... well, what have they to hide?

As you well know, they have plenty that they have encouraged to dim with the passage of time. These truths will be resurrected and examined in detail.

But the worst damage is done by Romney himself, a living breathing human being with no discernable personality of his own, the embodiment of roboticly living a life of the Mormon elite. People describe him as robot-like, which we will all become if we pray, pay and obey enough and avoid light-mindedness and wasteful hobbies and diverse friends.

The inability to converse with the average American is just the tip of the iceberg, my friend. Mitt Romney truly believes the hoo-hah he spouts and his inability to take direction from advisors who are not as inspired as himself is obvious.

Why on earth would he list the people he didn't care about? Because the Lord chooses those he wills to receive his choicest blessings. And the rich white man is clearly in that category--the others, well... God's will be done.

There is hope for the tipping point in 2012. It is already on the horizon. This site is experiencing a crashing level increase in traffic AND SO ARE THE OTHER ANTI-MORMON SITES.

Why is that? Because people are sick of the drivel that runs down the chin of LDS, Inc. as "explanations" of doctrine. They know they are not getting the truth. We average people are not idiots after all. Now that they have told the members where not to go, they are all going there. Porn sites and anti-Mormon sites.

Ironically, if LDS numbers go up, it proves they are "true." If they go down, it proves they are true because Satan is working against them.

Sigh. It is a good time to be exmormon, that I can tell you.

Mitt is our hope. Well, actually information is our hope but Mitt as a high-profile Mormon will make people seek information. And most people leave the church because they find information damning the church. The church just can't stand scrutiny - it thrives in darkness and ignorance. Between the internet and a rising level of interest in the formerly overlooked Mormons, we have hope. Because hobblecreek, you just want what we all want. For the sensible, intelligent, over-worked slaves we love to have the same freedom and happiness we do. The church can have the crazy fanatical members. Some people are so interlaced with Mormonism that they are almost cartoon characters - that robotic shell anagrammy talked about. It might even be cruel to get them to leave. Their whole psyches may collapse. The church might even be doing the world a favor keeping these fanatics on a reasonably respectable leash. Just let the good people go.

Sometimes collapse comes unexpectedly and far more thoroughly than imagined. Remember the Berlin Wall? Other things have fallen and other ways of life have been overturned. One can only hope.

I like the Berlin wall example. What a surprise that was! And everything unraveled so quickly too. One day the city was divided, the next it was not. Ordinary people made it happen. They changed the world.

"President Monson, tear down this wall!"

Normal to want, sure. But not healthy.

Your recovery is about YOU. And I wouldn't try to worry about things that you can't control alone. Such as causing the entire church to crumble/radically change.

Focus on you being at peace with your leaving.

Then just be yourself and if/when people want to know the truth about Mormonism, share it with them.

I would like to see my parents and siblings leave. But I won't dwell on the issue because they most likely won't.

And the church has survived a lot of disasters too.

Its my tbm wife and kids that I'm most concerned about. I wish I could get Mormonism out of my life without also losing my family. But you are probably right, its not healthy. Better to focus on what I can do to help my family escape rather than wishing the Mormon church would implode and solve the problem for me.
