"On November 19, 1832, South Carolina calls a state convention, which passes an Ordinance of Nullification with an effective date of February 1, 1833. The convention declares the tariff {Tariff of 1832} void because it threatens the state's essential interests. The South Carolina legislature acts to enforce the ordinance.[84][88][97]"

December 10, 1832 - "President Andrew Jackson, a Southerner and slave owner, calls nullification "rebellious treason" and threatens to use force against possible secessionist action in South Carolina caused by the Nullification Crisis.[88]"

(Later Congress gave more support to the President's words: "The Force Bill was initially enacted on March 2, 1833 to authorize U.S. President Andrew Jackson's use of whatever force necessary to enforce Federal tariffs. It was intended to suppress South Carolina's refusal to collect tariffs during the Nullification Crisis. ")

"A South Carolina unionist convention met in Columbia 12/10-12/14 and "displayed an inclination to bring on a civil war within [the state]" rather than agree to nullification." (Source:  Freehling, Prelude to Civil War, 268). http://www.jmisc.net/yr/32.htm

“The language used by Jackson, combined with the reports coming out of South Carolina, raised the spectre of military confrontation for many on both sides of the issue.”

Amazingly a few weeks later.......

Section 87: Revelation and prophecy on war, given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, 25 December 1832.

 1 Verily, thus saith the Lord concerning the wars that will shortly come to pass, beginning at the rebellion of South Carolina, which will eventually terminate in the death and misery of many souls;
 2 And the a time will come that war will be poured out upon all nations, beginning at this place.

The preface to Section 87 reads:

"This section was received at a time when the brethren were reflecting and reasoning upon African slavery on the American continent and the slavery of the children of men throughout the world."

Really? A racist church "reflecting" on slavery? It seems to me they were just reading the newspaper, and talking to travelers, trying to cash in on what JS thought was a sure bet.

even a cursory reading of Wiki affirms what you propose.

I had always thought that the D&C meant a rebellion of the Slaves, but on seeing it, that was Incorrect.

the fact that this 'revelation' was at THE END of 1832 also tends to affirm your theory/postulate.

good post!
