My friend just told me about his brother who came home early from his mission because he was diagnosed with "Compulsive Virtuosity." He was confessing to his MP 4 to 5 times a day. Apparently this is becoming a common illness, there is a clinic next to BYU Idaho where they medicate them for a few months and that is like 99% effective in treating it and they can return to the mission. (This is what was told to me by my friend)

Really?! They have to medicate them!? That just isn't right

Here is a link, though there probably better ones. There is a team studying this condition at Utah State University. They have done therapy on a few patients and have been somewhat successful in helping them.

The scrupulosity and CV seem such natural outgrowths of LDS teaching and culture that one is not all that surprised to hear of it.
