It's done for a reason; to show you that they still regard you as "their property", even though the whole charade is meaningless by the time you've already resigned. Wow you are lucky. I sent mine in over a month ago. I got the letter that they have to refer it to the B & SP but no one ever came by and I didn't hear anything else back. :(
They must have really streamlined the process. My resignation took months, and I had to keep following-up with the bishop, who was weeping and whaling and gnashing his teeth.
