My parents live in Provo and won't even shop at stores that sell alcohol. They won't eat at restaurants that serve alcohol. I wonder if they know that the Jesus mall is serving alcohol. I wonder how they reconcile this with their faith.
It really blows me away that Utah mormons are A-OK with all of this!
Then tell your parents they better stay out of Idaho, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, California cuz even the Wal-Marts sell wine and/or liquor in those states.

I don't think I have seen wine or beer in California Wal-Marts. BTW I like wine/beer better than I like Wal-Mart.
I was told that by selling retail space to vendors who sell beer & wine, the church is following good business sense. After all a prosperous church is in a way better position to save more souls than a broke one, right? The church can sell anything for money, as long as they don't use it themselves.
Brigham Young certainly advocated the idea.
"When there was no whisky to be had here, and we needed it for rational purposes, I built a house to make it in. ... I could have made thousands of dollars from my still." (Journal of Discourses Vol. 10, p.206 )
Joseph Smith too: "Ordinance on the Personal Sale of Liquors. Section 1. Be it ordained by the City Council of Nauvoo, that the Mayor of the city be and is hereby authorized to sell or give spirits of any quantity as he in his wisdom shall judge to be for the health and comfort, or convenience of such travelers or other persons as shall visit his house from time to time.Passed December 12, 1843. JOSEPH SMITH, Mayor. WILLARD RICHARDS, Recorder." (History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 111)
...I drink coffee. They'd look down their snooty, self-righteous noses at me for that, but would take my tithing money (if I paid it, that is), but serve beer and wine at the mall gala to non members who drink it? If that isn't the most sickening hypocritic thing I've seen in a long time, I don't know what is. About this whole 'mall' thing. It can all be best summed up by, "We thank thee O God for a PROFIT!"
