Funny thing just happened. I recognized an authors name in the Ensign my DW planted on me yesterday. I said, "I'll bet you anything that this is brother jackwagon ... sound just like his TBM voice"

I shot him an email -- the supercomputer that is the human brain nailed it. Perfect match. He wrote the article. It's the one from December about fiery serpents and avoiding the evils of purrrrnography. Nice guy, but how funny is that? I could spot his preachy voice a mile away (and I haven't heard from him in years!)

PS -- here is a perfect gem (I can't help but mock from the great and spacious building):

"Bad music, movies, books, drugs, immorality, pornography, and alcohol are only a few of the things Satan uses to tempt us. Even though these modern-day serpents may not seem as dangerous as a venomous snake, they are just as deadly—if not more so. Fiery serpents can kill the temporal body, but sin can destroy our immortal souls."

And if not, then maybe the rest of his argument is specious too.

To say nothing of his imaginary boogie man, Satan.

How can sin, even theoretically, destroy an immortal soul? The soul has no death, supposedl. So, sin can only make things tough on a person, i.e., they have to spend the eternities in a hot, burning hell.

Why couldn't he just say, "You are probably better off in the long run if you stay away from....yada, yada?

Because scared people want others to be scared.

. . . to scare people in every religion since religions were invented (although some of the technologies available varied since no one could really predict the future).

I sent him a note telling him how I knew it was him but also just to say hello; I purposely didn't praise the article. I cc'd DW.

DW also sent him a note ... telling him "good job on the article!"

Later she says -- "why didn't you tell him he did a good job?"

Me: "Because I thought it was a terrible article. I have plenty of friends who drink alcohol whose immortal souls are not in danger of being destroyed. I didn't like the self righteous TBM tone"

DW: "you should have lied and said you liked it anyway"

Me: "I don't lie"

No way!

I saw that article. A typical TBM B.S. article in its style, format, and content. So typical that it is amazing that you recognized the author as someone you knew, Major B.!

I don't know the author but his preachy, self-aggrandizing, suck-up-to-the-leaders tone came right through. Even when I still believed, that type of article was a real turn-off!
