Isn't the way Mormons pronounce Ensign, a mispronounciation? Shouldn't it be pronounced "En-sin," like the navy rank, or am I wrong? (n/t)

I've always pronounced it EN-s'n. How was I supposed to be pronouncing it?

I guess this proves they were right, I was never a mormon to begin with.

It used to be noted on the inside cover of the magazine how it is to be pronounced. It is the long i sound.

That is because Utawhns tend to drop the g in words.

MJ nailed it. Names in particular often have different pronunciations in different contexts. Vienna, GA, and Minot, ND are examples (Vie'-enna, and My'-not) (n/t)

You are right of course, but, pointing this out to mormons is a very ignernt thing to do. Try to be more polite in future.

I'm thinkin on headin down to 'Mercan Fark in a bit, get me a session in fore the fetchin day is over. For hecks sake.

I just check with several online dictionaries. Except when referring to the naval rank, en-sign is listed as acceptable or preferred, depending on the dictionary.

When it comes to getting things wrong, Mormonism is a target-rich environment. As luck would have it, this happens not to be one of the things they got wrong.
