Been charging it since 10pm, so hopefully it will be charged by 1am.

Then to register it and download some books.

Be sure to sideload the awesome apps that you can't get on the Amazon market. It does not harm it and does not void the warranty. Sideload:

-Go launcher
-Facebook app
-Dolphin Browser
-Anything else you've purchased on the Android Market.

Almost every program I've side loaded has worked flawlessly.

It depends on the Kindle he has. If he has the Kindle Fire, that's fair game. If he has any of the other Kindles, I would not recommend him trying downloading ANY apps. The Kindle Keyboard, Kindle Touch, and the standard Kindle, are NOT app friendly.

It's called "No Lips To Scream With" and it has been a fun read. The first story surprised me. ;)

The result was not a murder but the villainous husband/father DID get found in the street badly beaten after boasting in the pub about how he had told his children he had murdered Santa in the back yard of their house.

Got mine last month and have been reading more than I used to; since it weighs hardly anything I put it in my bag to read on the bus everyday, unlike dealing with the size and weight of hardbacks from the library! Check out some of the free e-book sites (pixel of ink, ereader IQ) that will send you emails listing a few of the books that are free each day.

I don't have a kindle fire, just one of the cheap-o ones, so I don't know anything about using apps, but there are some games you can download for the regular (non-fire) kindle.

Enjoy!

Not sure they have the Kindle Fire in the UK yet. I have Nook Color and enjoy a number of apps. I am still getting used to reading books electronically....not quite the same as having real pages to turn and a cover that seems to make a statement about it being tangible.

My wife is getting a Kindle Fire later in the year. Mine is an ordinary Kindle.

Just downloaded some books to read. Also all the books on my Kindle for PC automatically came over to my Kindle! Whoo hooo!!

We might have close birthdays if yours is in May too.

Book suggestion: Alan Bennett's The Uncommon Reader, really a novella. Great read and I think you'd particularly appreciate it.

Hope you're well enough to handle a pint or two.

If not, let me know. I'll handle the chore by proxy.

Party on, mate!

Timothy

I was just clicking on this thread to recommend those two books and House of Faith, House of Cards by Eric Davis.

There are also a couple of books about spiritual abuse and recovering from cult programming on Kindle too.

The biggest tip I have though is to check the free book list at least once a month. I've seen books come and go on that list and more than once I've gotten a book free that I would have had to pay for later. If you are on Facebook, you can "like" the Kindle and they will post on your newsfeed free or deeply discounted books that are on one day sales. I got one a while back about the Titanic that was regularly $9.99 and was on sale for one day for only $1.99. So keep checking and you can get some real steals.

You can put the Kindle app on your phone and iPad too - that way you have all your books at hand no matter what device you're on. I read on my phone ALL the time and I love reading on the iPad too.

Happy Birthday, Matt!

I bought myself an e-reader (though Kobo, not Kindle) last week and I love it! I hope you do too.

There is also a tone of free books around (thousands)

I have an open source program call CALIBRE on my PD at home. You can take PDF's, Kindle, Nook and many other formats and change them to the format you need. It's open source & free.

I've read about 80 books since I got my 2nd had Kindle 3G. 3 months ago. You can even format word docs and stuff to read if you want.

Strongly recommend 'Heaven up Here'... just make sure you have a weekend ahead of you when you start, in case you can't put the kindle down!
