The "Book of Mormon" was written in the late 1820s. Everything in it is a product of that time. For someone living today in the twenty-first century to try and argue that it doesn't mean what it actually says is absolutely preposterous. When Brigham Young said that race mixing should be punishable by "death on the spot" he meant just what he said.
This guy reminds me of a documentary I saw about one of the few Americans to defect to North Korea. During one interview he said how he "just needed more re-education" to understand the wisdom of the "Great Leader."
If you believe this nonsense I have a secret Nazi base in Antarctica that I can sell to you -- you betcha ;)
How many times have I heard people say how they were told how "white" and "special" they were for being "truly valiant in the pre-existence" and other such nonsense...
"What a superbly researched and articulated paper! And very timely as well, since we must be prepared for the onslaught against our faith in the coming months. Well done, Jonathan, and thank you!"
The whole argument now is that the curse was separation from god (being "cut of from the presence of the Lord"), and that the black skin was (benignly?) merely the "mark" of the curse, not the curse itself.
<long pause to pick up jaw off floor>
OK then, the "mark" was racist, not the curse. Sorry, my mistake. What a stupid argument.
