http://www.ldsliving.com/story/68975-poll-sandals-in-church

I saw this yesterday, and I just had to vote. I couldn't believe the results: the sheeple, in particular the women, are as brainwashed and manipulated as they've ever been. I'd love to see some reality penetrate the blind bat-sh*t obedience, so if you've got the time and inclination, take a moment to skew the vote! Oh, and make sure to read the comments; there was one about a woman's mother who was turned away at the so-called "House of the Lord" because of her footwear.Latter-day Pharisees indeed.......

Our ward meetings follow a Tongan ward's meetings. When I go, which is more often than I'd prefer, just about everyone in that ward is wearing flip-flops. Women wear dresses with flip-flops, and men either wear standard Mormon attire or lava-lavas, but most wear flip-flops either way. It's a cultural thing, but it's funny to me that it's OK for them, but not for anyone else.

Similarly, Otavalo men from Ecuador get no grief from the church for their long, braided hair because, again, it's their culture.

But these are exceptions. It boggles the mind that the church is so obsessed with outward appearances, the very thing Jesus said not to worry about.

1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

then Paul:

2 Corinthians 4:18

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Here's a clue that a church is not truly Christ centered: They worry about nit-picky things, outward appearances, "image," instead of the spiritual inward life.

The LDS penchant for image, appearance, presentation and "how we look to others" shows the emphasis is not on Christ or his teachings. They are concentrating on the worldly in this and in profit/corporation/money. Corrupt to the bone.

Just when I think I've heard it all, or that in the 11 years since I've been out, there can't be anything else TSCC can come up with to ban. Sandals? Are you freakin kidding me? There is a controversy over this? They like women to wear long skirts anyway, wouldn't you be wearing sandals with those in the summertime? The only thing that even might be considered beachwear-only these days would be the old-time $1.99 rubber flip flops (or what we called thongs in the olden days before you couldn't say thong in an LDS church).

THAT's why almightygod does not have time to protect the little children in Darfur who are thrown into a bonfire with their mothers watching and the ones who try to run out burning are pushed back in with a pitchfork.... because good ol God is making reports about how many of his chosen people are wearing sandals.

There are certain congregations in Northwest Florida, in tourist areas, where it is common for the ward members to show up in sandals and even board shorts. A lot of them have to work on Sunday, their employers don't care about their religious beliefs, and will only accommodate enough to let them have a couple hours for the block meetings, then its straight off to work where such dress is actually required.

74% were against flip-flops, because an apostle said so. 10% thought sandals were inappropriate. Well, as a guy, I don't see all that much difference. Luckily, I have Jeff Holland to help me out.

Two points:

1) Jesus hung out with poor people mostly. He preached at the drop of a hat and interacted with people where He found them. I don't think Jesus cares too much about what we wear to church.

2) I wore a sundress and flip flops to church yesterday. When I left the house my hair was still damp. I figured it would dry by the time I got there. As I was walking in I saw three other women with wet hair! It must be a trend! They were also wearing sundresses and sandals.

As a matter of fact, Jesus never established a church which consisted of buildings where you dress up and sit down either.

Organized religion developed later, and if JS really restored the true church, it wouldn't have ward buildings, temples, a corporate structure worth billions or any of that. LDS-Corp has simply followed the pattern of many organized faiths, believing that all this worldly clap-trap really represents what Christianity should be.

My mind is my church. Anyone who inserts himself between me and god, spirituality or whatever you want to call it has something to sell, and wants your money. Every time.

I have to obey enough authority as it is. Why would I willingly allow more of it?? Crazy.

In California, sandals, crocs sandals, just about anything goes for women.

After the temple wedding, brides who have to stand around for hours for pictures and the reception wear big cushy flipflops and proud of it!

People wear sandals in just about every other church I have attended. Who cares? Personally, I wouldn't wear the beach type rubber sandals but if someone else does, I couldn't care less. Talk about Pharisees.

The morg is permanently stuck in whatever decade the 3 old geezers at the top and their 12 minions happen to have grown up.

That and the year the Book of Mormon was published, which book, not surprisingly, turned out to be completely ficticious.

Mormonism does not have a leg to stand on. So what difference could it possibly make if the leg is clad in sandals or pantyhose.

DNA has shwon all the idiotic claims of Mormonism to be a complete FRAUD.

Stupid cult.

I still remember as a kid getting told off for wearing sandals - despite the fact that I had broken a couple of toes and couldn't get my school shoes on over the bandages.

Myself, I have some pretty fabulous 'flip flops'.

I think the church as way bigger problems they should be focusing on. They really care about women's sandals?

Maybe they should pick on the men for wearing extremely expensive custom made suits, incredibly priced starched white shirts, and those top of the line mens dress shoes, and those very expensive silk ties. Or would that little speech only apply to the top 15?

I used to work in menswear at Nordstroms. Trust me, the top 15 aren't wearing anything cheap. We're talking $1000 and up for one outfit, not including shoes, silk ties, gold cuff links, and custom made dress shirts.

Their socks probably cost more than a nice pair of flip flops.

Lol! Holland says clothes and footwear SHOULDN'T be expensive. Right back to the bom and costly apparel...yet, hello City Creek. Aw, the hypocricy. Oh, and I'm sure Holland wears inexpensive, off-the-rack suits. ;)

I remember wearing flip flops one Sunday when a lady (masculine and looked completely silly in her 50's dress and nylons) gave a lesson on honoring the priesthood. On the front row was a young lady who had just lost her mom and had a number of other negative things going on in her life. This "lady" condemned jean skirts, t-shirts and flip flops. "Our young men wouldn't be allowed to pass the sacrament in jeans, t-shirts and flip flops!" Guess what the young lady on the front row was wearing?? All three. Didn't see her a church again. :) Lucky her. As for me, I just laughed and winked at a visitor who was also wearing flip flops. We errupted in laughter. In fact, it was "loud laughter". ;)

What's next everyone part their hair to the right?

Things like this are why I'm glad I left the craziness since I pretty much live in sandals from April to October.

I have nice looking feet. I usually have a good pedicure complete with polish. Flip flops show off the fact that I take care of my feet.

Maybe those old buzzards have a foot fetish, and can't take all of that flip flop porn going on at church. Especially on the young girls. Just too much for those old dudes.

I suppose jack boots would be okay.

Disclosure: I'm still LDS (a crazy uncle is still my uncle) but hanging out here is much more fun than at the snooty LDS blogs.

I prefer not to wear flip flops to church, that's just me. I never realized anyone up top said anything about it. : / While I don't prefer to wear them (part of it is the smacking sound they make when I walk.....bugs me when its quiet), I have several pair that would look nice with a skirt or dress.

I actually love fancy shoes (not expensive.....), and like dressing up for church since I usually dress down and in tennies around the house. I have a pair of "Barbie shoes" that are hot pink, sling back, platforms with polka dot trim and a peep toe with a bow on the toe. I get alllllll kinds of comments and looks when I wear them. Lol.

I don't begrudge anyone who wears flip flops to church, I don't care what anyone else wears. But I like wearing fun shoes when I get the chance.

I am such a rebel. I wear flip flops to church every Sunday, and don't care. I remember them saying that years ago that it wasn't appropriate and gave some dumb reason. I stopped for a while back when I was TBM, but now I could care less. Please kick me out for my shoe wear!

As a blond caucasian man, they look askance at me for my below-shoulder-length hair... but there's a "Lamanite" bro who gets a free pass on this.

I just tell them my hair is cultural too.. my ancestors were Vikings.
