Are there any websites out there that provide historical stats regarding the number and names of LDS missions in each continent/country etc? For example, what year had the most missions in Europe and how many they have now. Or, in such and such year, Africa had the following missions.

This is a fascinating site run by TBMs who, independent of the suits in SLC, research membership, missions, growth (or, as they admit, lack of the same) and so on.

This is how they describe their project:

The Cumorah Project is a privately funded initiative that engages in research and education. Our major areas of emphasis include:

Country and culture research
Missiology research (church growth, research, education)
Gospel topics
Ancient language research
Digitization and preparation of electronic texts on related themes
Development of original resources

The Conclusions to their report on membership growth and convert retention should be bookmarked as a rebuttal to the bogus numbers released by the Suits.

I also noted the article blames the low retention rates for converts as the result of emphasis on monthly missionary baptism goals pressuring missionaries to obtain quickie baptisms rather than making sure people are thoroughly prepared for baptism.

One has to conclude the Lord does not care enough about missionaries to send some inspiration to their leadership.
