My sister in law jumped down my throat 4 months ago because of my 7 yr old's use of the word "stupid". She cut me off and hasn't spoken to us in months, so no contact. Cousins not allowed to play together. It's really weird because her own kids and my brother use that word all the time. My mom called me today to let me know some "clues" she has gathered from my nephew as to why his mommy doesn't like us. Apparently, because my children posess "The Bare Naked Book" by Kathy Stinson (it's NOT porn), they are perverts and will corrupt their cousins.

This is just the latest in a string of incidents where my LDS relatives constantly treat my kids like sexual deviants.

The real reason I own the book is because someone gave it to us and I want to raise my kids with healthy views on sexuality. It's not like I showed this book to anyone outside my household. The reason they know about it is because a family member who was at my home as a guest noticed the book laying around and spread some gossip. Apparently the book is newsworthy!

As I am not a member anymore, What do they expect??? Why do they still treat me like a pervert for not following those rigid church standards? I've been out of the church for 10+ years. It is just this kind of nonsense that made me question if the church is true. Thankfully the church is not true. I hate the zealousness!

Rant over.

Not.

Your SIL has the problem, you don't. You are lucky to not have her in your life, but I'll bet that doesn't make it any easier to explain her to your kids. Sorry.

What's frightening is that I might just have been like that at one time. The longer I'm away from the Church, the more I realize that the old me has come back again. My personality is much more like it was before I ever joined the Church.

And they say that religion isn't harmful.

Count me in. I just got a message from a close relative about how the church is okay once we let go of the bad parenting. It pushed me over the edge. I refuse to listen to fairy tales of Mormon virtue, and I replied in a very negative way.

Another one bites the dust. Freddy Mercury said that.

I had this book at my house. My kids liked it, and so did their friends. I think it answered their questions in an age appropriate way. I don't see why anyone would make a big deal about it.

If your kids don't know this stuff, they are being kept in the dark, and the parents aren't doing their job IMO.

Whose children do you think will grow up more mature and knowledgeable about the human body? Yours.

Whose children will probably be the first ones to get pregnant or catch STDs or worse because they didn't know what they were doing? Theirs.
