Well, well, well...so the LDS church is calling home the missionaries from the Ivory Coast because it's too dangerous...The Swiss want to ban all missionaries who aren't from the EU and 13 senators have protested....looks like the missionary program isn't rolling forward as much as the COB mucky mucks would like it to....tsk tsk

From the Swiss article;

"We hope a solution can be found that allows missionaries, regardless of their country of origin, to continue to serve the Swiss people," Trotter said.

From the Africa article;

"The loss of non-African missionaries may actually increase The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ presence and stability in the Ivory Coast, Martinich said, because requiring “only native members to serve full-time missions often greatly strengthens the LDS Church and leads to long-term, self-sustaining church growth, as seen in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

So which is it? Better for local missionaries to preach to their own, or for American missionaries to bug foreigners???

So it's not too dangerous for the African missionaries so they can stay? Hmmm Just wondering. They're wearing the same uniform.

and just reassigning them to neighboring nations.

Missionary work continues in Ivory Coast. Not sure if this is a good example to use if you want to say the LDS missionary program is suffering.

... Replacing all the gringos by locals, as if those were less likely to get kidnapped in the suburbs than the gringos.

"Well, you'll see more of this kind of thing as the world becomes more wicked, the missionaries will be called home with more frequency."

Seriously - exact quote from 2 days ago.

Sigh, we'll never see that magical young missionary who was a great general in heaven insomuch, that he was chosen to be the first Senior companion to set foot in China. Sigh. :_(. I was looking forward to witness this historical event.

Well let's see...there have been no significant Swiss conversions for over ten years, so the church pulls out the American missionaries and there will be no Swiss conversions for the next ten years. I don't see the problem.

Maybe the Swiss missionaries from America can be transferred to Germany or France where there have been no significant conversions for years also.

Missions are a colossal waste of time - maybe the young men of the church will be lucky and the need for missionaries will actually decrease so more of them can go to school and avoid the deep programming of the MTC.

I had to comment on the article. If you care to read it, I'm "Tweedmeister." I hate it that the Mormons claim so unfairly that they have great successes in Africa. The poor people don't have any good defenses against the Mormon religion due to their pervasive ignorance caused by their circumstances, not to mention their lack of Internet penetration.
