Religion, bad sci-fi and the god-shaped hole

Some propose that humans have a biological craving for worship. Here's an article linked to another article about how some fans make Star Wars and Star Trek their religions. A mention is made of Mormonism (though we know it's the original "Battlestar Galactica" that's like Mormonism).

Both articles deal with how believers react to accusations (or the personal realization) that the object of their devotion sucks. It tells us something about trying to help Mormons see the light.

Ive seen lightsabers slice peoples arms off and the Force do stuff. I've never seen moroni or the plates.
