I totally understand all of you Christians and you Mormons and how it is so hard for you to learn that I am right.

I feel you guys.

but I understand social norms here as to "give the benefit of doubt to new posters" till proven otherwise.

How about "give benefit of the doubt to all posters"?
Much kinder approach. That and not responding to the ones who rile up your feathers.

I've learned that a very tactful way to engage in debate or to express disagreement is to not use the word "you". I know you're post is a slight exaggeration of the other one that just got closed, but I find that arguing works best as the other party gets less defensive when you avoid saying "you".

I'm speaking generally and because of the way Jacob wrote this post as it was likely a deliberate attempt to exaggerate the last post.

I didn't want to get too involved in that last thread as I didn't feel like it was going anywhere and went way off topic.

I enjoy your posts MJ (generally). You're obviously very well opinionated and pissed about a lot of things as am I. I like you am mormon turned atheist. I see where you came from on that last post, but must I concede that a little tact may have been in order.

Having said that, I don't go onto the recovery from JW site to tell them I feel their pain.

I come here for discussion (this is a discussion board), to express, and defend, opinions. Does that make me, as a whole, opinionated? I do not think so.

If being angry about how religion is being forced on me and how I am treated as a second class citizen because I am gay means that I am "pissed about a lot of things" than so be it.

Not to mention how mos try to legislate against equality.

Let's not get into the whole "you weren't ever a mormon, you don't deserve space here!". It's been done before and it's a very typically mormon snobbery.

Let me join the misinterpreted crowd. Gets larger ever day.

You're the one with an agenda, Biggie... Found a new target to pick on?

The closed thread had this sentence.

"Few things are more painful and disorienting than rejecting a belief that once defined your life. From one human being to another: I feel you."

MJ was very kind in his questioning, for the record my opinion is that the thread was about defending a troll against a known member of our community.

But never my first and only post. Let me revise from troll to post and run.

IMO you took offense where it was not intended. I can see how you can interpret it the way you do, but I don't see it as the intent.

Thanks for your honesty. I am yet to find an atheist who breaks the norm from my observations. They must be out there, I just haven't met them yet.

It's always a shock for people to discover the majority of the world don't see things the way they do.

I am a very rare hot-house hybrid atheist. It is so difficult not only being the only one who is right all the time but having to look good while doing it too is a killer.

If people want to change my mind, all they need to do is show VALID, OBJECTIVE, evidence that I am wrong.

Sorry if that comes across as aways being right to people that can't use logic, empirical evidence, objective "truths", or valid arguments.

I just don't believe in God, and that seems to create a lot of work for religious types.

I'm speaking Russian and you're speaking Chinese. And the two will never communicate with each other...

I accept that and can live with it.

Funny, I drink beer and coffee, watch R movies and love me some porn, yet I still find time to feel better than everyone else. I think quitting Mormonism is like quitting smoking, it takes years to purge the crap from your body/mind.
