This is a very obscure and lyrically perceptive song from the summer of 1972. The lyrics that, I think, most refer to the purposes of this site are found in the second verse and bridge which I quote below:

2nd Verse:

"In order to form a more perfect union
Religion will cost a man one-tenth of his gold.
A piece of paper says he's redeemed his soul.
A piece of paper says he's all right."

Bridge:

"You know paper is only paper
And people, well they try to be good.
Some folks live by others' paper.
Some folks live like they should."
