I have to agree here, doctrine and policy are warped. There is no scripture refuting their bigotry, just whitewashing it out over time. Their doctrines are still bigoted against people with dark skin.
Polygamy/polyandry (both instigating and removing)
Temple ordinances - not in early scripture/revelation. Major changes since where the belief is that the ordinance had been handed down via the masons unchanged from the time of Adam?
Adam/God theory
Blacks & the priesthood
United order (although an argument could be made that the doctrine still allows for it - same with polygamy, but not polyandry)
I'm not sure there are any major ones. Most of the changes they make in the LDS Church are about policy.
Their main points about claims of JS and his vision, and the "keys" and tenants remain the same: Requirements for Baptism Christ as the head of the church Ordinances done on earth for living and dead Eternal Marriage (sealing) done in temples for worthy - the Eternal Family Temple requirements and interviews (some change in policies over the years) Word of Wisdom requirements There are more but those are some of the basic ones that are still unchanged in their essence.
The move from the trinity to 3 separate Gods in the 1830s. The invention of levels of heaven, garments, temples, priesthood authority. None of that existed when the church was formed.

True, however, if I remember correctly, these were instituted by Joseph Smith Jr before he was killed. It was part of how the original church evolved in the first initial years, and part of the reason some called him a "false prophet" and many were excommunicated and then brought back.
It's very difficult to nail down what is official doctrine in the TSCC. If it becomes unpopular and uncomfortable in society, then a current prophet can trump an prophet from the past.
Richard Packham said "It's like trying to nail Jello to a wall, or catch a greased pig."
Doctrine in the MORG is an organic fluid concept, ever growing, ever moving and ever changing.
Some people have come back to the church after many years and could barley recognize it as the same church.
Biggest doctrinal changes: 1. Polygamy 2. God head, (Son of God) changes in the BoM. 3. Adam-God doctrine. 4. Temple ordinances, ceremony 5. garment usage
Joseph Smith (emphasis mine): "It is the FIRST principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the Character of God"
1820 Joseph: One (maybe two characters) in heaven (i.e. Lord) 1835 Joseph: Protestant God (i.e. Lectures on Faith) 1840 Joseph: teaching plural gods and Adam-God (Nauvoo Expositor and Brigham Young's comments) 1840 Joseph: Jehovah is NOT Jesus 1850 Endowment House (prior to temple) Actors: Elohiem, Jehovah, JESUS, and Michael 1850 Brigham: Jehovah is NOT Jesus 1853 Brigham: Adam is our God 1900: Adam is our god and we excommunicate those who deny it. 1904: Jehovah == Jesus 1950: Adam God THEORY -- is evil and from the devil (TSCC is still in the 1950s until the geezers die off) Present: Jehovah has ALWAYS been Jesus
Wow... Can you help me find references for these? I'm especially interested in:
1840 Joseph: Jehovah is NOT Jesus 1850 Endowment House (prior to temple) Actors: Elohiem, Jehovah, JESUS, and Michael 1850 Brigham: Jehovah is NOT Jesus 1853 Brigham: Adam is our God 1900: Adam is our god and we excommunicate those who deny it.
I don't think the blacks and the priesthood is a change, it's a fulfillment of their prophecy that went something like this: when the rest of the world has an opportunity to hear the gospel, the blacks will be given the same privileges.
Of course, this was long before civil rights for blacks erupted in the 60's -- took them until 1978 to implement it.
Of course, it appears that outside pressure promoted the change probably earlier than they planned.
