I had a plumber here today for my bathroom remodel. He's a chatty guy and we talked about a lot of non-plumbing things. He asked about my family and whether I was going to see them on Thanksgiving. "No. I'm not close to them -- neither emotionally nor geographically."

That led to a discussion about parents and I told about my father being an aloof man and hard to please." A little more back and forth and he asked if my father was a heavy drinker. "No, he didn't drink at all."

The plumber put that together with my earlier statement of having gone to Utah State. "Was he a Mormon? Are you?"

"He was a very devout Mormon, but I left the church after college."

Of course these days you can't say "Mormon" without Romney coming up. Without any prompting from me, the plumber shook his head and said, "That guy just doesn't have a moral compass. He'll say anything. You can't tell what he really believes."

I chuckled. So even plumbers in North Carolina see what a liar and faker Mitt is.

I took the opportunity to tell him about Lying for the Lord. He was fascinated.

He also volunteered his opinion that religions which venerate their leaders tend to use a lot of guilt to keep believers in line.

I might have a new best friend.

lol
me too.

Suddenly I wanted to know exactly what his new bathroom would look like.
I re-did mine last summer and now it looks like the nicest room in the house.

It was built in the '50, featuring blue sink and toilet and white & blue tile. That would have been fine if I wanted to stay with the retro look, or if the toilet worked properly. But I tore everything out, which wasn't easy since the walls are thick plaster and the tile is set like stone.

The tile guy put new sandstone-like porcelain tile over the old floor. I'm putting drywall over the wall tile. The electrician (who wasn't a chatty guy) put in an exhaust fan and pendant light.

HAHAHA! This begs the question: what was wrong with 'Joe the plumber' then...?

He wasn't a plumber. He was as fake as Mitt. His name wasn't even Joe, it was Sam.

l.m.a.o. You are a riot, flyboy. If you are a commercial pilot, I bet your "Folks, we've turned off the seatbelts sign..." chatter is hilarious.

Excellent story, Stray Mutt. It's amazing how some of the unwashed masses can see so clearly the lack of moral character when so many of "the chosen" are oblivious to it. Maybe they are so used to seeing it in TheBrethren that it's status quo for how they expect "leaders" to comport themselves.

I can tell what Romney believes in -his own totally unlimited self entitlement, that got a big dose of reality just recently.

I'm sure that was true for Ann. She was the one who said it was their turn!

I'm still stuck on that word 'moral compass.' I thought I coined that term! Well that couldn't possibly be so...

Stray Mutt by the way, I enjoy your posts too. When I first discovered RFM, it was the late nineties! And I remember your screen name from even back then...I was just a lurker way back then, but your posts have given me strength and perspective even back then.
