Just as I was having a nice Sunday afternoon nap I hear a knock at the door. I go to answer it and lo and behold my bishop in his nice clean suit is there. I welcome him in and we do a little small talk before he begins by saying How's your family doing? o say we're doing fine next question is How's your family in regards to spiritual blessings WTF!!! I say that we are blessed everyday of our lives and the last question is We're you ever offended is that why you and your family don't attend church??? holy cow bishop! I told him strait that we I wasn't offended in any way I am just confused as to why the church never tells its members about Joseph Smith and his teenage brides and some other church doctrines. Why the F.... Do members think that just because we don't attend that we were offended??.?

Say you were offended........ that you were lied to about the entire history of the cult, and wasted years and $$ on a scam.

Please don't ever let him in again. You don't owe him an explanation. They will keep coming as long as they know you are willing to talk.

"Well Steve," don't use their self imposed titles, "I wasn't offended until now. You see, now that it seems I am not trusted to look at the teachings and history of the church, and decide for myself, as an adult, that it simply isn't true, and that I am not smart enough to figure out that it is not true by looking at these things, I am offended. I am offended that you are basically calling me stupid Steve." I assume your Bishop's name is Steve, "You must be calling me stupid Steve, because only an idiot could look at all these things, and not realize that Mormonism is full of crap, and that there must be another reason I left."

Sure sign of a cult.

There is never a valid reason to voluntarily leave the group. Members will stay with an abusive group because they are unable to envision a successful or happy life outside of the group. They are taught “to believe that if they ever leave, they will die of some horrible disease, be hit by a car, be killed in a plane crash, or perhaps even cause the death of loved ones” (Hassan, Combatting Cult Mind Control 45). Anyone who does voluntarily leaves the group is demonized as sinful, weak, satanic, a traitor and an enemy.

However, the time is coming when every faithful member will personally know someone who left and has gone on to live a successful, happy life. This is what cult leaders fear the most. Because as they demonize apostates, the TBM will be thinking but that doesn't really apply to Uncle Rick or my neighbor Susie - creating a lot of cog dis.

Sorry, but the very idea that I'm easily offended tends to rankle my ire. Excuse me, I'll have to say goodbye as I was in the middle of a very important project when you showed up. Goodbye, hope you have good luck with your other home visits. It might help if you called first. Say hi to the wife."

No, bishop, I wasn't offended. Sit right there. I will go get my books and show you why I don't go to church. I would proceed to go through as much as I could until he decided to leave. In my house the discussion is what I want, not what he wants.

I did the exact same thing that Brian did. I documented everything, too, and kept my bishop in my house for almost two hours. The bishop promised me that he had proof that Joseph Smith was the most wonderful person who ever lived, and that he did more to help the world than any other human being, other than Jesus Christ. I said a man who treated women like he did could not be even "human," and I would really like to see some real proof. The bishop never bothered me again, except to try to stalk my children.

"Well, Bishop, the reaons I don't attend is because I have a
'Word of Wisdom' problem. . . . You see, I think the Church that
preaches the 'Word of Wisdom' is a fraudulent cult started by a
sexual predator."

What a great line, Baura. We could substitute any problem at all, for "Word of Wisdom" problem, and change the wording a bit, such as, a tithing problem, a tattoo problem, a pornography problem, a coffee problem, etc. We could zap them every time.
