I haven't been to church in ages and am a professed atheist but not until today did I finally gather up all the garments and temple gear and toss it out. I've been meaning to for over a year but just never got around to it for various reasons. Today in my cleaning I just decided it was time.

One small step that's really a big step.

Sometimes we only know we have made a commitment by watching what we do.

For many, those items are very symbolic! Your little ritual of tossing them out make a loud statement. (I did the same thing!)

It's a good step.
For me it was the declaration to my wife that I didn't believe.
So I understand the importance of these symbolic/statement-based actions.

Good luck in your continued journey!

Hooray for you. I remember when my brother came back from his Mission and shoved all his garments in a dumpster. One of my fondest memories, the ritual relegation of Mormonism to garbage.

Thank you all for your support. I think it is a big step as you've said. They have sat in a drawer for far too long. Why keep them if I'm not wearing them and don't believe they are anything but a waste of fabric?

It was a great day for me as well when I tossed the BOM and the D & C into a dumpster. I was relieved. All the temple costumes got chucked and the only loss I felt was the money invested in those ridiculous temple outfits.

Lesson learned.

Congrats. I forgot to mention that I threw away our garments last week. Had a smirk on face when I pulled in the empty bins back from the road.
