family name was a big deal in my family too

Refreshing to hear his TBM mom own up to making a mistake in how she treated him when he came home early. Surprising BYUTV would air a story about a someone "not being ready" for a mission at such a young age - even more surprising they would show interviews with his family members being supportive of his decision. Good for him, and good for his family.

It is telling about the "cult" aspect of Mormonism that the
story of a guy who goes into a big program then decides he'd
rather not and comes home is a HUGE story. What if this had
been the Peace Corps instead? Would it have been a big story
then? The fact that they fawn over how "we still love you" etc.
shows how this is a big deal in Mormonism and how it has
cult-like power over the members lives.
