I'm probably late to the party on this, (sorry for that) but I just finished watching Battlestar Galactica for the first time. I saw so many parallels, similarities, or what every you want to call them between this show and Mormonism, is that on purpose (did a Mormon write the show or something) or is it just coincidental?

I just found this very interesting & weird.

The producer of the original series was Glen Larson, a Mormon. He had a little fun with it. Ok, he probably wasn't that great of a TBM!

The newer series was done by someone else and went in a different direction.

Did you watch the original or the sci-fi darker cooler remake? Yes the original was written by a Mormon, Glen A Larsen, a television producer who also did Knight Rider ,Buck Rodgers, Quincy M.E., Fall guy etc.

The original has a ton of parallels with Mormonism. I think the newer BSG has some intense parallels with Abrahamic religions in general, not just Mormonism (though Kobol is still an anagram of Kolob).

As originally stated, the original series from the 70's dipped heavily into LDS theology for many of series plot points. The newer series of SyFy carried most of those themes over while going in a different direction. Still, both series had a significant religious context.

What was the question again? I got distracted by Boomer and Number Six posing for Maxim.

Frack yes!
