There was an episode of True Life on Mtv a year or two ago with a husband who was so addicted to porn and jacking off that his wife left him, and was threatening to divorce him. I remember thinking at the time that he was probably Mormon, but I never knew for sure.

The other night they had a special where they caught up with people from former shows, and it had him again. He claimed he was over his addiction, and his wife had just given birth to their first child. Then it showed him go out and get the mail, and you could very clearly see an Ensign in the pile of mail.

Wasn't it an akward episode? Only a TBM would be so ashamed of masturbating.

Addiction is a vague term. According to Mormons, a "porn addict" is someone who watched porn and j/o nearly ever day. Well, that would mean that nearly every guy in the US is an "addict". That's like calling someone a "food addict" because they eat 3-4 times a day, or a "sleep addict" because they go to bed every night. That's such a facile explanation for their marital troubles.

The term implies negative impacts on your life. Just because you do something a lot doesn't make you "an addict". His wife didn't like him doing it, so if he was doing it once a month, he was "addicted". Mormons think people who have 2-3 drinks a week are alcoholics!

The couple probably needed marriage counseling. If his wife wasn't having sex with him, it's natural for him to take care of himself. If he was choosing porn over spending time with her, then there are probably other issues in their marriage.

And what kind of a person would tell all about it on TV. Nutty.
