I believe his recording of Tchaikovsky's P.C. #1 was the First classical recording to go Platinum (or Gold?);

RCA LSC-2252

I thought it was interesting that he said that values could be learned through music.

Van Cliburn was a great pianist, and Tchiaikovsky was an awesome composer. What a match!

I think is a technical & artistic sense, Vladimir Horowitz may have been higher critically praised...
VH was BANISHED from Russia, returned in Triumph decades later; he could have been Sold Out in Moscow for MONTHS if he extended his stay.

However, Van Cliburn inspired millions of future pianists; In his tribute one of the most prestigeous competitions was started and is a treasured accomplishment to be even considered for.

tough call to compare them, No Doubt.

if there is a god, and Cliburn is relegated to a position lower than Joseph Smith, then I want NOTHING to do with that fu#king god!
