If the BoM were true; and God "smote the lamites with dark skins for being wicked. Why then when the nephites turned wicked and the lamites were good' didnt God reverse it. And make the lamites white and the nephites dark?

Ensign, Dec. 1975:

>For nearly 200 years after the coming of
>Christ to the Americas, there were no
>Lamanites “nor any manner of -ites; but
>they were in one, the children of Christ,
>and heirs to the kingdom of God.”
>(4 Ne. 1:17.) Soon, however, a part of
>the people fell away and took upon them
>the name of Lamanites; “therefore there
>began to be Lamanites again in the land.”
>(4 Ne. 1:20.) Clearly, Lamanite in this
>case again refers to the state of
>righteousness of a political/religious
>group, presumably a composite of the
>descendants of many of the original
>colonists in the New World. The Lamanites
>of this definition survived beyond the
>close of the Book of Mormon record,
>and it is these people from whom the
>Lamanites of today descended.

So, maybe the question is be answered is: "What skin
color did those wicked ones who "survived beyond
the close of the Book of Mormon record" have?

Any former Institute teachers in the audience today?

Because Nephi was really Joseph Smith, and Laman was one of Joe's brothers. If anyone was going darky, it wasn't Joe or his descendants.

Along those lines there are even more problems...

At the beginning of the BoM Nephi bemoans that all of his seed is going to be destroyed.

Around the time that Christ came for a friendly visit after killing a bunch of them it says that the righteous Lamanites turned white.

In 4th Nephi it says there were no more Nephites, Lamanites, etc. There were all one people.

Then after 200 years of peace some people starting getting wicked.

The ones who were wicked became the Lamanites. The ones who were righteous were Nephites (until they became wicked 100 years later).

Soooo...

One of two things happened.

1) Everybody turned white when Jesus came. Then when the first batch "broke bad" they turned brown again.

In which case Nephi's seed would not have been destroyed. In which case Nephi is a false prophet.

2) Or half of the Nephite's were brown and half were white. Same with the Lamanites - half were brown and half were white.

In which case the rest of the book of Mormon makes no sense at all. There was no more the "bad guys" that are cursed with brown skin. This means that there is no way to tell Nephites apart for Lamanites. Which means none of the story in Mormon makes any sense.

---

Either way the Book of Mormon is made up.

The whole BoM "white skin vs. dark skin/Nephite vs. Lamanite" thing becomes so ridiculously muddled and confused by the end of the book that the reader really has no idea what's going on (maybe Friberg's illustrations can clarify some of this for us, lol!).

And the idea that "Nephi's seed" was discrete from his brothers' seed at the end of the book--so that Nephi's descendants could all be wiped out WITHOUT also eliminating all of his brother's descendants--is not tenable; there would have so much intermixing over the thousand-year history that everyone at the end of the book would have had about the same proportion of genes from any given individual in the founding parties (Lehites and Mulekites).

Strong evidence that, like you say "... the Book of Mormon is made up."

"And it came to pass that those Lamanites who had united with the Nephites were numbered among the Nephites;
"And their curse was taken from them, and their skin became white like unto the Nephites;
"And their young men and their daughters became exceedingly fair, and they were numbered among the Nephites, and were called Nephites. And thus ended the thirteenth year." (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 2:14 - 16)

Nice! It's easy to spot the BS if you bother to look.
