To me the most glaring change in all of this is removal of all reference to "History of the Church" as a historical document.

Look carefully at the side by side changes. In multiple places they have removed links to the "History of the Church". Why is the church distancing itself from that book? Changes to study guides typically provide more sources, not less. Take the changes to the intro to section 50, 51, 56, 57, etc, etc.

These changes don't make it easier to study, they make it harder by deleting the true source and replacing it with a vauge term like Joseph Smith's history (not in quotes) or just eliminating the link to the HC all together.

This side by side document is just one more evidence that the church is anti-intellectual.
