I envy those of you who are already out. I'm not. sigh...
But I was wondering who among you are committing or have committed quietly subversive acts of rebellion against the church in your own homes/wards/callings before you were able to get out? I want stories and ideas.

My last calling was to teach the youth combined sunday school. I taught liberal, feminist, humanist ethics dressed up in doctrinal language. Nothing I taught could be criticized by leaders as apostate, but it was definitely a different focus and emphasis than what was in the lesson manuals. For instance, in a lesson on the restoration of the priesthood, rather than teaching the class (half of whom had a uterus) about how great it is that a few people can have the priesthood and everyone else can't (as the lesson manual dictated), I taught about the responsibility that everyone has to treat women as equals and not asserting chauvanist domination over women.

I essentially ignored all the supernatural doctrines, and taught secular humanism in mormon-speak. It was a good time.

I can't say I have openly "rebelled" but finally have come to the conclusion the church is an organization created by man, not by God. I don't hate the church, but there are just too many things going on that don't add up lately.

I went through a stage of rebellion, that I'm not doing again to save from the tears and lectures, but I was hating the church so much, on multiple occasions I would say I was going to the bathroom and walk home. I was forced to go to church, and don't know what they did, but I turned around and liked the church again. I'm back to hating the church, but I'm not going to tell anybody. I just can't wait to get out of here.

I was forced as a child, and went out of guilt for a while after age 18, then went to the temple.

My mother, who'd never had her "endowment", asked why I left (in 1987). I described the death oaths and bad feelings, and she said "you have a demon, they don't do that"

She checked with her aging uncle who confirmed the penalties were once there.

So for 20 years I have felt alone about my exit from MORmONISM, just needling my TBM family, pointing out their hypocrisy and having a laugh or two.

BUT, you want to know the ultimate rebellion?

I am happily married over 20 years, non MORmON, successful, happy and getting hot funky munky love all the time. My TBM neighbors and family cannot STAND to be laughed at...

my MORmON golf buddies whine about never getting laid...

it's a joke...

and as Mark Twain said, "Against laughter, nothing can stand"

I once took the group of Young Women outside and taught them how to change a tire, check their oil, and refill their windshield washer fluid. Didn't go over too well with the leadership.....

That's amazing! You're the best for doing that! And so is everyone else for their rebellion.

In 1976 -I think- TSCC decided that every ward and branch of the church would hold special services to commemorate the American Revolution. Even in British wards and branches. (Helllloooo! What were they thinking??!!)

They instructed everyone to sing 'My Country, 'Tis of Thee' which is sung to the same tune of the British National Anthem.

Myself -and one other male member- stood with the rest of the congregation, but we were belting out: "God Save the Queen."

I suppose my subversion started in my youth. I got kicked out of priest quorum for taking "refreshments", trying to prove that if it was OK at a fireside, it should be ok in priesthood meeting.

I didn't buckle under tremendous family pressure, and had friends be the escorts when wife and I went through the temple, rather than parents.

Then it started in earnest when I would raise my hand in class and point out when the teacher was teaching folk belief, not doctrine.

Then I found out it was all a big lie, and I started teaching things (I was the teacher at this point) from History Of The Church v. II in an effort to correct lies and distortions in the manual. That got me fired as teacher.

I worked for the church, and was constantly in trouble with supervisor for not being mormon enough.

I taught the missionaries that came to get me to go back to church. I think they were banned from coming back after a couple of times. I was doing a great job in my lessons to them.

It's a wonder that I felt enough guilt to stay in it till I was 40.
