When I was a boy, I asked my mom, "Who do we worship, Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ, since they're two separate people?" My mom told me she wasn't sure either. How many other people asked that question as LDS? What is the answer?

That which is larger than ourselves.

The guy with the mustache up at the podium in a Nuremberg rally.
The movie starlet, back in court for another DUI hit and run.
The Great White Whale.

Or, if the neoVedantists are right, our own inner self.

Last time I spoke with any Buddhists, they were pretty
much down upon the notion of worshiping anything -- huge
meditating Buddha statues notwithstanding.

At some point we all surrender... but some of us take
one last gasp and kick a bucket, before we get there.

all of the good guys in the D&C, BofM, Ensigns, and wardhouses. They also worship their buildings, their hymns, their rituals, the sacrament, their pioneer ancestors, their temple grounds, and their underwear.

But unfortunately many mormons think that "worship" means simply to talk to a spirit using prayer. They need to carry dictionaries along with their scriptures.

Few people have worshipped their buildings with the fervor of the Mormons. Mormons have buildings so sacred that you have to interview and pay dearly to gain access.

When you get in these sacrosanct temples, you notice that cash registers are ringing merrily as goods are purchased. You can hope that the transactions are sacred, and you can also hope that Mitt Romney will pay a fair wage to his Guatemalan house maid.

And Mormons worship themselves, as they believe in personal exaltation. Every man a God, every woman a subservient mate. Children are chattel.

According to doctrine (at least what was taught when I was last active), the Mormons worship God the Father, only, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Jesus Christ is the Savior, JS, BY etc, are prophets, not to be worshiped, nor is Jesus Christ, who is our Elder Brother and intercessor for us with the Father.

Regardless of future Godhood, current members only worship God the Father. Once you are a God or Goddess, your future denizens will be required to worship you, whenever that comes to be. What that does overall, who knows.

I have no idea if this has changed since I have been out of TSCC in 1993. It is more than likely as this sort of thing changes frequently.

Of course folks at the Temple in Bountiful WORSHIP
the risen Christ in Third Nephi.

And in Ether, that same Christ (not yet incarnate and
risen) is declared the GOD of America.

If Jesus=Jehovah, and if the Hebrew Bible tells folks
to worship that same Jehovah, then I'd say that the
Mormons have more than a little 'splainin' to do.

I vividly remember that, when I was a YM, TSCC taught:

1. "LOrd God" refers to God the Father and/or God the Son, but NOT Holy Ghost.

2. All should worship the Lord. (So, I think, TSCC worships Jesus as well.)

Often before I debate a TBM, I will make them take my "How well do you know your doctrine" quiz before.

The 1st question is always: Name all of the people you worship.
So far, I've never had anyone but my father confidently & correctly answer this question (at least according to current LDS policy, that is).

Answers have varied greatly:
--I dunno
--All 3 members of the godhead
--maybe only god the father? But maybe Jesus too?
--Only Jesus Christ, that's why our church is named for him, or because he suffered for our sins

You'd think that'd be a pretty core belief. That's why I ask it.
If they can't answer that central tenant, I offer them an out, "We can proceed if you want, but I think it will frustrate you since you aren't very well versed in your doctrine."
80% take the out.

I think for that reason, it's essencial the question be asked. If Mormons worship Elohim only then they're monotheistic and if they worship Christ and Elohim, then they're polytheistic. If they worship Elohim through Christ then I'm not sure why that's necessary. I think it's all a clusterschtup. I was LDS 40+ years and could never figure out who it was I worshiped; Elohim or Jesus.

This is one of those basic things that every mormon should know. However it's never really explained very well in my experience. When I worked in primary and taught sharing time I would catch myself in the middle of a lesson and realize that I had no idea who I was talking about, God, Heavenly Father, the Lord, Jesus Christ, Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit, The Spirit. I would be so nervous as I taught worried some kid would ask a question.
