My mom doesn't fast cause when she goes too long without food, she gets diarrhea, so she claims. Well, when I go too long without food, I get hungry. Isn't that legit? I mean, how can you even feel the spirit when you don't have all those sugars and carbs rushing to your brain?
My TBM aunt is diabetic. She eats small snacks instead of full meals on Fast Sunday or when the family is fasting for specific people. Not all TBMs are completely moronic about following the rules even when it's bad for their personal well being. :)
I never fasted after I was pregnant anyway. You can't fast when you're pretnant either. So--I didn't fast for the last 7 years I was in the church. But then again, I fasted almost daily for the 18 months before I got married . . . trying to get answers for the mess I was in. I knew it was all bullshit as far as fasting as concerned by then. You can only fast for so long and get no results and lose all beliefs in it.
Yup- I was always told if it was a medical condition, you didn't have to fast. I got out of fast Sundays in my teens because I usually worked those days. I was on my feet for 5-8 hours so it was a very sound reason to not have to fast.
So she eats protein sparingly instead of just eating normally. It is crazy but she says it keeps her following the spirit of the fast even if she can't follow the letter of the law
I was also told that if you had a medical issue, you didn't have to fast. The local bishop happened to be a doctor, so if he was aware of a medical issue, he didn't want someone to put their health at risk by fasting.
