Is everyone aware that the god of Moslems is a female? According to Robert Briffault, so-called "Allah" was earlier the female deity, Allatu, of the Babylonians. See Walker, Graves, and other scholars.

but I think according to Islam, Allah is above the male/female distinction.

According to the great Google god, Allah is considered to be greater than "his" creations, and above all human attributes such as gender. The Arabic word Allah is arbitrarily male, just as the German word for girl is arbitrarily neutral gender - the gender of the word has nothing to do with actual gender.

The Al Jazeera interview where Dawkins appear to
condemn Islam is this one posted last June 30, 2012:

New Atheism's most polarising figure?

The AJ interview where he ducks the question on
whether his call to mock beliefs on God include
the God of the Koran is this one posted last
Feb 14, 2013:

Dawkins on religion

I hope no one thinks I am mad with Dawkins, I'm
not. I just don't think he is an inspiring
person. As the Dear Leader of militant atheism,
he should be consistent when asking his followers
to ridicule those who believe in God.

If he truly was a leader of the atheists, all the atheists would be talking in terms of "brights". Clearly that is not the case.

I've heard him say plenty of things against Islam. But I haven't heard him say much against Allah.

If the fruits of Islam are what we can expect in a world ruled by Allah, then Allah is apparently a complete maniac. If the fruits of Islam are guided by the Koran, then the Koran needs to be revised so it doesn't produce those fruits in its readers.

I've heard Muslims say that everything will be better once everyone believes in the Allah of the Koran. I have friends in Turkey who have said this. My only response to that is, "You can't be serious." Wherever Allah and the Koran rule a nation's leaders, suffering always abounds, pretty much without fail.

I've heard him say plenty of things against any conceivable religion. But I haven't heard him say much against any god. That is probably because he doesn't believe gods exist, while religions are pretty real.

It's in my library; read it years ago, when it was first released. A lot of good information. If you read both it and Barbara Goodwin Walker's Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets, you will be well-informed on the history of religion. The classic, of course, is Robert Graves, The White Goddess (dealing with poetic myth), from 1949. A note to Naomi: the deity of the Babylonians was feminine in gender and female in fact. More than I can say for Google.
