I was thinking about this as I ground up my coffee...I have a Mo brother who travels to many foreign countries for a government agency. I wonder how he handles the offer of coffee and such.
I know in the Middle East it is a custom to offer very strong, black coffee to guests; the kind that makes the spoon melt. It's impolite to refuse most offerings.

I don't ask him right now because I worry he might think it's an attack on his beliefs.

And I would imagine being an ambassador involves lots of parties with alcohol.

Perhaps they are given a free pass in their own minds to imbibe, like Steve Young could work on Sunday etc.

They could always accept the drink and then pretend to drink or just set it aside.

However, normal (non-cult) non-drinkers might well follow your suggestion, knotheadusc.

turn down port and alcohol at our parties.

I don't think at the national level they expect every visitor to follow their rules either.
