A very close friend of mine, who went to BYUH, once told me that one of her science teachers showed the whole class a picture or a slide of a person that can't be physically identified as male or female (but she didn't tell me if the slide or picture showed the sex organs or not.)

I was like "Wow, are you serious?"

"Absolutely...we were all shocked and you could hear a pin drop in that classroom."

Can anyone verify this and if that science teacher is still teaching there?

This was circa late 90's.

I think the OP is asking if that resulted in the teacher being fired.

I was asking:

1. if anyone can verify this really happened.

2. if that teacher got fired for that.

What exactly is so "shocking" about an intersex or androgynous person?

It challenges mormons' lies about gender?

There are more intersex people in the world than there are mormons.

And people with physical intersexed characteristics are way outnumbered by people with gender dysphoria. I used to think GD was imaginary, or some sort of mental fixation that could be cured, but it turns out that it's real, and it's just as inherent in certain people as being gay is.

I had assumed from a photograph that Monson was male. H'm.

Showing a picture of an person like that is not shocking.

It is "where" the picture is shown that's shocking.

Remember we are talking about "BYU"-H here.

The fact that someone on TSCC's payroll did that is shocking, too.

I don't know anything about this particular incident.

But I was at BYU in the 1980s. And in genetics at BYU we talked about various genetic conditions leading to intersexed or hermaphrodite individuals. One slide I remember seeing in class was of a man born with two sets of legs, with a penis between each set of legs. (Hmmm ... does that mean he'd have TWICE the priesthood power???)

Looking back, what stands out from my science education at BYU is the almost schizophrenic attitudes (if that's the right way to describe it) of everyone involved. We could have very detailed, educated discussions of intersex individuals or of Darwinian evolution. But at the same time we all knew that we didn't "believe" in those subjects. Maybe that's the hallmark of a BYU education - the ability to have sophisticated beliefs in two diametrically opposite positions at the same time.
