I was in vegas driving back to denver last week. We past by kolob canyon down by Hurrican, UT. I nearly died laughing when I saw the sign.

If they had called it "Apple Canyon" would it have been any less beautiful of a canyon? I don't think that a name spoils anything.

When something is named it usually reflects what is going on during the time. It is nothing more nefarious than that.

True. It's an amazingly beautiful canyon. It has the beginning to the subway and many other gorgeous hikes.

And if I got all frantic regarding religious connotations of names, I would be frantic about Zion, Angels Landing, Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Luis, San Luis Obispo, etc..

Yes, crazy name, but a beautiful canyon. Next time take an hour or two and drive through it, stopping at some of the overlooks. If you have time, there are some trails.

It makes me sad to drive past it without stopping, but I have stopped at about a dozen times and think it's worthwhile.

If you don't already have a national parks pass, you'll have to get one at the visitor center at the entrance to the canyon. I think it costs $25 per car, good for a week.

Kolob Canyon, Kolob Mountain, Kolob Reservoir, take your pick. Growing up we used to hie to Kolob for parties and such (yes even including that evil alcohol). And such being code for other serious transgressions of tscc doctrines I am sure you can guess at.

I may not hie to Kolob but I'll definitely hi"k"e to Kolob
