Okay, not directly, but definitely made me think of the church (what doesn't, unfortunately?):

“A thing is not necessarily true because a man dies for it.”

The fact that Wilde met with John Taylor in SLC is hilarious. I truly hope that someone would write a fictionalization of their meeting, preferably in the form of a play. I knos that it would be beyond hysterical.

Every time I see your moniker Dallin A Chokes, I laugh. Thanks for the great moniker.

I wish I had read that quote when I was a teenager.

Back then, I totally bought into the rationale (or lack thereof) that since JS died for BoM and TSCC, both must be true.

On a side note: I have never read anything by Wilde until I was in college. Argghhhhhh.....

Wilde is a good example of how, strangely, people accepted offbeat people, gay people and even agnostics during the Victorian era. I guess they took liberty and free speech more seriously even though they were supposed to be very morally straight-laced. Wilde toured across the US and received glowing reviews.

Robert Ingersoll, the Great Agnostic, also toured and spoke before crowds of thousands.
