I am having a debate with a friend that I think would kiss ol hank's buttocks till days end, somedays I think and hope if people go around the logic circle enough times that some how like Joshua on war games they will figure out how pointless it is and step back and think for a minute.

below I summarize the TBM logic loop to share with your friends and family to see it helps.

Seeking truth, that is ok right? well sorta. here is how the logic goes, seek truth, but if you find anything that is different that what I say then its not true.

well how do I know that? because it is in the book, well how do I know the book is true, well because the book says so.

Is that all the proof you have? no, I feel it's right too I have a spiritual witness.

hmm, what about others and their feelings that are opposite yours and the fact they believe in a different book? well my feelings are right and theirs are wrong.

how do you know that? because my book says so.

that is circular logic. you can't argue it because it is a closed loop, and it is pointless to argue because it brings no knew knowledge to bear.

Personally I think that type of logic kept humanity in the dark ages for centuries.

+1 of you get the war games reference and if you'd piss on a spark plug to get the point across lol

Great post!

A recurring answer is this:

"I have never heard of it before, so then it can not be of any real credibility."

It is not circle logic but more related to the feeling-argument.

other answer that you get in the discussion,

That must be taken out of context, all those anti-mormon things are out of context.

I can't explain that, no one can explain everything.

you just to have faith (believe in spite of the knowledge you found, not because of the lack of knowledge.)

The only way to win is not to play. That's certainly true when trying to reason with illogical people.

It's really unfair to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
