Great video too. Does anyone have more atheistic music suggestions?

A Perfect Circle - Judith

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTgKRCXybSM

You're such an inspiration
For the ways that I will
Never, ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your savior has abandoned you

Fuck your God, your Lord, your Christ
He did this, took all you had, and
Left you this way, still you pray, never stray, never
Taste of the fruit, never thought to question "Why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed

He did it all for you...
He did it all for you...

Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you

Pray to your Christ, to your God
Never taste of the fruit, never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie even though he's the one who
Did this to you, you never thought to question "Why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if he knows the reasons why

He did it all for you...
He did it all for you...
He did it all for you...

More atheistic music suggestions:

Rush - Faithless

I've got my own moral compass to steer by
A guiding star beats a spirit in the sky
And all the preaching voices -
Empty vessels ring so loud
As they move among the crowd
Fools and thieves are well disguised
In the temple and market place

Like a stone in the river
Against the floods of spring
I will quietly resist

Like the willows in the wind
Or the cliffs along the ocean
I will quietly resist

I don't have faith in faith
I don't believe in belief
You can call me faithless
I still cling to hope
And I believe in love
And that's faith enough for me

I've got my own spirit level for balance
To tell if my choice is leaning up or down
And all the shouting voices
Try to throw me off my course
Some by sermon, some by force
Fools and thieves are dangerous
In the temple and market place

Like a forest bows to winter
Beneath the deep white silence
I will quietly resist

Like a flower in the desert
That only blooms at night
I will quietly resist

Rush: Freewill

There are those who think that life is nothing left to chance,
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance.

A planet of playthings,
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot conceive.
"The stars aren't aligned
Or the gods are malign"-
Blame is better to give than receive.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still haven't made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill;
I will choose a path that's clear-
I will choose Free Will.

There are those who think that they were dealt a losing hand,
The cards were stacked against them- they weren't born in lotus-land.

All preordained-
A prisoner in chains-
A victim of venomous fate.
Kicked in the face,
You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate.

Each of us-
A cell of awareness-
Imperfect and incomplete.
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet.

Rush - TOTEM

I've got twelve disciples and a Buddha smile
The Garden of Allah, Viking Valhalla
A miracle once in a while

I've got a pantheon of animals in a pagan soul
Vishnu and Gaia - Aztec and Maya
Dance around my totem pole

I believe in what I see
I believe in what I hear
I believe that what I'm feeling
Changes how the world appears

Angels and demons dancing in my head
Lunatics and monsters underneath my bed
Media messiahs preying on my fears
Pop culture prophets playing in my ears

I've got celestial mechanics
To synchronize my stars
Seasonal migrations - daily variations
World of the unlikely and bizarre

I've got idols and icons, unspoken holy vows
Thoughts to keep well-hidden -
Sacred and forbidden
Free to browse among the holy cows

That's why I believe

Angels and demons inside of me
Saviors and Satans all around me

Sweet chariot, swing low, coming for me

Why no Christians allowed? I love A Perfect Circle, regardless of my religious affiliation. Although i'm probably more of a Tool fan if I had to choose between Maynard's projects.

Cool bit of info, Judith was Maynard James Keenan's mother's name, she had a stroke that left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair. After becoming wheelchair-bound she became even more devoutly religious, which irritated the shit out of Keenan for reasons explained pretty obviously in the lyrics.

Another good song with an Atheistic theme is "Terrible Lie" by Nine Inch Nails.

Hey God why are you doing this to me?
Am i not living up to what i'm supposed to be?
Why am i seething with this animosity?
Hey God i think you owe me a great big apology
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Hey God i really don't know what you mean.
Seems like salvation comes only in our dreams.
I feel my hatred grow all the more extreme.
Hey God can this world really be as sad as it seems
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Don't take it away from me.
I need someone to hold on to.
Don't take it away from me.
I need someone to hold on to
Hey God, there's nothing left for me to hide.
I lost my ignorance, security and pride.
I'm all alone in a world you must despise.
Hey God, i believed that promises, your promises and lies
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
You made me throw it all away.
My morals left to decay.
How many you betray.
You've taken everything
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
Terrible lie
My head is filled with disease.
My skin is begging you please.
I'm on my hands and knees
I want so much to believe.

Oh! Another good one while i'm thinking about Tool/A Perfect Circle.

Tool – “Opiate”

If you want to get your soul to heaven,
trust in me .
Don’t judge or question.
You are broken now ,
but faith can heal you.
Just do everything I tell you to do.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow.
Let me lay my holy hand upon you.

My Gods will
becomes me.
When he speaks out,
he speaks through me.
He has needs
like I do.
We both want
to rape you.

Jesus Christ, why don’t you come save my life?
Open my eyes and blind me with your light
and your lies.

not discuss offending imaginary beings or people who love them. Xstians are welcome if they want to contribute atheistic music.

Thank you for the story on the lyrics! I knew it was about his mother. He makes great music, and whenever I hear music from any band he is involved with I like it.

Also, I like "Heresy" from NIN.

Actually, no. It was an aggressive message. What you said was: "No xstians allowed."

A friendly warning would have been: "Warning: This post may not be Christian friendly."

You didn't ask people not to come, you attempted to ban them. There's as major difference.

One of my personal new favorites:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-dgPCsWvaQ&feature=related

East Jesus Nowhere

Raise your hands now to testify
Your confession will be crucified
You're a sacrificial suicide
Like a dog that's been sodomized

(Stand up!)
All the white boys
(Sit down!)
And the black girls
(Stand up!)
You're the soldiers
(Sit down!)
Of the new world

Put your faith in a miracle
And it's non-denominational
Join the choir, we'll be singing
In the Church of Wishful Thinking

A fire burns today
Of blasphemy and genocide
The sirens of decay
Will infiltrate the faith fanatics

Oh bless me Lord for I have sinned
It's been a lifetime since I last confessed
I threw my crutches in "the river of a shadow of doubt"
And I'll be dressed up in my Sunday best

Say a prayer for the family
Drop a coin for humanity
Ain't this uniform so flattering?
I never asked you a god damned thing!

A fire burns today
Of blasphemy and genocide
The sirens of decay
Will infiltrate the faith fanatics

Don't test me
Second guess me
Protest me
You will disappear

I want to know who's allowed to breed
All the dogs who never learned to read
Missionary politicians
And the cops of the new religion!

A fire burns today
Of blasphemy and genocide
The sirens of decay
Will infiltrate the inside
Yeah!

Here's one of my favorites: Jesus Christ Pose

And you stare at me
In your Jesus Christ pose
Arms held out
Like you've been carrying a load
And you swear to me
You don't want to be my slave
But you're staring at me
Like I need to be saved
In your Jesus Christ pose
Arms held out
In your Jesus Christ pose
Thorns and shroud
Like it's the coming of the Lord
And I swear to you
That I would never feed you pain
But you're staring at me
Like I'm driving the nails
In your Jesus Christ pose
And you stare at me
In your Jesus Christ pose
Arms held out like it's
The coming of the Lord
And would it pay you more to walk on water
Than to wear a crown of thorns
It wouldn't pain me more to bury you rich
Than to bury you poor
In your Jesus Christ pose

One of my favorites ...

"100 Suns" by 30 Seconds to Mars on "This Is War"

I believe in nothing, not the end and not the start
I believe in nothing, not the earth and not the stars
I believe in nothing, not the day and not the dark
I believe in nothing but the beating of our hearts

I believe in nothing, 100 suns until we part
I believe in nothing, not in sin, not in God
I believe in nothing, not in peace and not in war
I believe in nothing but the truth and who we are

How can you not love goth football?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GFI6Rf-IkI&feature=related

Nothing suffocates you more than
the passing of everyday human events
Isolation is the oxygen mask you make
your children breathe into survive

But I'm not a slave to a god
that doesn't exist
I'm not a slave to a world
that doesn't give a sh!t

And when we were good
you just closed your eyes
So when we are bad
we'll scar your minds

fight, fight, fight, fight

You'll never grow up to be a big-rock-star-celebrated-victim-of-your-fame
They'll just cut our wrists like
cheap coupons and say that death
was on sale today

And when we were good
you just closed your eyes
So when we are bad
we'll scar your minds

But I'm not a slave to a god
that doesn't exist
I'm not a slave to a world
that doesn't give a sh!t

the death of one is a tragedy
but the death of millions is just a statistic.

But I'm not a slave to a god
that doesn't exist
I'm not a slave to a world
that doesn't give a sh!t

fight, fight, fight, fight

from MansonWiki:

"The video can be seen as a representation of the concept behind Holy Wood. The two teams of the video (Holy Wood and Death Valley) share the names with the two dueling regions in the world of Holy Wood. Holy Wood is the home of "the beautiful people", who are wealthy and adored, and Death Valley is the host of the lesser, undesirable "ugly" people. In the story, the people of Death Valley revolt against, what they see as a fascist, Holy Wood. The football game is a metaphor for this struggle, and Death Valley's sudden turn to violence acts as the beginning of the revolution. The fact that all Death Valley players have "00" as their uniform number emphasizes their role as "zeroes" or "nobodies". It is assumed that the scene of a football game intertwines with the themes of Holy Wood, as football is both one of the most violent sports and one of America's greatest obsessions."

God

God is a concept by which we measure our pain
I'll say it again
God is a concept by which we measure our pain
I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-Ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in mantra
I don't believe in gita
I don't believe in yoga
I don't believe in kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles --
I just believe in me
Yoko and me -- and that's reality
The dream is over -- what can I say?
The dream is over -- yesterday
I was the dream-weaver but now I'm reborn
I was the walrus but now I'm John
And so dear friends you'll just have to carry on --
The dream is over.

John Lennon

It's twice as old as I am, but I absolutely love it.

merely substituting a different leader with a different dogma to tell them how to live, think, feel, and what is appropriate. All we have to do is believe in ourselves, and be free from attachment to the philosophies of others.

almost forgot.....

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

"God"
Ooh who, ooh who.
God sometimes you just don't come through.
God sometimes you just don't come through.
Do you need a woman to look after you?
God sometimes you just don't come through.

You make pretty daisies, pretty daisies, love.
(Come down I'll tell you what you want you need, you know.)
I gotta find, find, find what you're doing about things.
(Besides, besides, huh, what'cha doin',)
A few witches burning, gets a little toasty here.
(Hey, whad'a you know, whad'a you know,)
I gotta find, find, find why you always go when the wind blows.

God sometimes you just don't come through.
God sometimes you just don't come through.
Do you need a woman to look after you?
God sometimes you just don't come through.

Well, tell me you're crazy maybe then I'll understand.
(Come down I'll tell you what'ch you need, you know.)
You got your nine-iron in the back seat just incase.
(Besides, besides, huh, what'cha doin'.)
I heard you've gone south, well babe, you love your new four-wheel.
(Hey, whad'a you know, whad'a you know.)
I gotta find, find, find why you always go when the wind blows.
(Besides, besides.)

Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
Will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky fall?
Will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky?

God sometimes you just don't come through.
God sometimes you just don't come through, babe.
Do you need a woman to look after you?
God sometimes you just don't come through.
Do you need a woman to look after you?
God sometimes you just don't come through...
Ooh who. Ooh who. Ooh who. Ah ah..

Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam. Sunbeams are not made like me.
Don't expect me to cry for all the reasons you had to die. Don't ever ask your

Don't expect me to cry.
Don't expect me to lie.
Don't expect me to die for thee.

Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam. Sunbeams are not made like me.
Don't expect me to cry for all the reasons you had to die. Don't ever ask your

Don't expect me to cry.
Don't expect me to lie.

this is an awesome song by Drew Stedman, an exchristian.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3hALt4C9Fo

The last line is the best:
I saw that you were me...
And I was someone else

Lyrics:

I used to love you
Thinking of you all the time
And I used to hold you
Hold you in my mind
And I used to dream, yeah
That you would fill my cup
But my glass was empty
On the day that I woke up

Now it seems obvious to me
That you're not a real entity
It seems obvious to me
That you're not a real entity

I've seen you with others
But you're never quite the same
Always shifting allegiance
Between the sacred and profane
And I think its strange, yeah
That you would leave a choice
With so many speaking
If you were the only voice

Now it seems obvious to me
That you're not a real entity
It seems obvious to me
That you're not a real entity

I used to trust you
More than I trust myself
But when my eyes were opened
I saw that you were me...
And I was someone else

There is no music on this thread at all, only words.
Next time call it "songs" or "lyrics" or something.
Music has no religion or politics.

XTC - Dear God

Dear God,
Hope you got the letter,
And I pray you can make it better down here.
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer,
But all the people that you made in your image,
See them starving on their feet,
'Cause they don't get enough to eat

From God,
I can't believe in you.

Dear God,
sorry to disturb you,
but I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears,
And all the people that you made in your image,
See them fighting in the street,
'Cause they can't make opinions meet,
About God,
I can't believe in you.

Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!

Dear God,
Don't know if you noticed,
But your name is on a lot of quotes in this book.
Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look,
And all the people that you made in your image,
Still believing that junk is true.
Well I know it ain't and so do you,
Dear God,
I can't believe in,
I don't believe in,

I won't believe in heaven and hell.
No saints, no sinners,
No Devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown.
You're always letting us humans down.
The wars you bring, the babes you drown.
Those lost at sea and never found,
And it's the same the whole world 'round.
The hurt I see helps to compound,
that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
Is just somebody's unholy hoax,
And if you're up there you'll perceive,
That my heart's here upon my sleeve.
If there's one thing I don't believe in...

It's you,
Dear God.

I must be too old for that music. It sounds like somebody put a bunch of metal in an old truck and drove it down a mountain.

I'll bet that's what my 1970's music did to my parents.

I'd like to say I liked it, but..well, no I didn't.

Course, I am an old bird and still like Willie Nelson, :-)
