Loved this:

[TSCC] compels its members, including children, to study the Book of Mormon and other “scriptures” which are a fraudulent farrago, purveying as history events which are totally fictitious and often preposterous, and with numerous passages based on racism or sexism. It has suppressed criticisms of its narratives, and encourages members to obey the authority of its 'prophets' and ignore normal standards of reasoning and evidence.

I enjoyed reading it. He had lots of good questions. And for a non-Mormon I think he has an excellent grasp of what they teach. Of course, he doesn't put it in rosy terms like they like, but it is accurate and blunt.

The part that should make everyone think is that the funds the church collects in tithes benefits the members themselves (kind of) and definitely not charity like one would normally think of. And the main people profiting from the tithes are the higher ups. They just want to hoard the funds. That doesn't sound charitable at all. And they give members a hard time if they've fallen on hard times and don't want to part with the cash.

The more people know about it, the more they will not join.

I liked the very first sentence:

"As you must have seen, the Church of the Latter Day Saints have capitalised on the attention given to their sect by the musical The Book Of Mormon (which I recommend to you)......

1) he omits JC from the name of the church
2) he calls them a sect
3) he endorses the BoM musical

Good guy!

That is one boffo essay. The author not only takes a damning look at mormonism, but also at the practice of governments supporting religion both covertly and overtly.

The issue of taxpayers inadvertently subsidizing the mormon religion's advertising efforts is described well.

The Mormon church must be stark raving bonkers if it thinks the UK public will be conned or influenced in any positive way by its quite ludicrous and insulting blanket advertising in London.

The vast majority of the British people are increasingly becoming more and more secular in their views, and more accommodating of people from different cultures.

They will not tolerate a seemingly lunatic cult that demands strict adherence to its loony views and policies that undermind diversity and equality.

If anything, this ludicrous campaign being rammed into the faces of the London public will only serve to further alienate the Mormon church and they will be seen for the utter bigots and controlling zealots they most certainly are.

And of course, you can identify all the TBMs in the comment section because they're butthurt about him not using the full and proper name of the thing. Nitpickers.

I doubt if Baroness Warsi (a muslim), will pay much if any attention to the very reasonable points made by the author. Mormonism is seen as an irrelevance in the UK and by and large ignored.

But the nonsensical advertising campaign is an offence and insult to the poor travelling London public who have to endure these images being thrust in their faces on a daily basis. Now that is a crime!
