The England & Wales Gay Marriage Bill made its final successful passage in Parliament today, with a huge majority of MP's in favour.
It now goes to the House of Lords (2nd Chamber) for ratification on Wednesday.
Their Lordships will huff and puff and may return it to the MP's with some amendments. But with such a huge House of Commons majority in favour of the Bill, this would be an unusual step by them, and in the end, normally agree to ratify the legislation.
It is mostly the right wing Conservatives (Republicans) who are opposed to marriage equality, and their venom is relentless.
All of the Scottish political parties are also in favour of Gay Marriage and a Bill should be presented to the Scottish Parliament later this year for final ratification. In this case, there is no 2nd Chamber
It is looking increasingly likely that equality in marriage will become law soon throughout the UK.
