(I don't remember seeing this discussed so sorry if this is a repeat.)
My friend whose son got a mission call to Salt Lake City, Spanish speaking two weeks ago, found out today that he would not be reporting to the Provo MTC. He will be flying to the MTC in Mexico City, according to her FB post. Several others responded with stories of kids they know who got stateside calls Spanish speaking and are going the Mexico MTC, so apparently this is common. Someone else said the MTC in Provo was so full that a missionary couple they knew stayed at the Provo Marriott instead.
My question is, do parents have to pay for the airfare to Mexico City, instead of driving/flying their kids to Provo? When did this switch to sending American missionaries to train at the Mexico MTC start?
