We know that JS practiced polygamy some say as early as 1831 and that it became a common practice among Mormon communities in later years. But does anyone know of any information or is there any documented evidence available where any of the early immigrants in the 1840's from the UK may have been "encouraged" into this practice or possibly against their will?
Great stuff. Thanks Tom for the info and to Chris Ralph for his revealing insight and the heartfelt stories that so aptly describes the impending Mormon hell that was to await so many of these early British converts. Hopefully there will be many more revelations to come that blows the lid off of this darker side of early Mormon history that the Church is always so desperate to bury.
Thanks for these links , Chris Ralph writes so well and it is absolutely heartbreaking, both to read those stories of despair, and also to reflect that so many of these dreadful experiences have been airbrushed from the record.
Fanny Stenhouse was a UK convert and wrote a lot about polygamy in her book "Tell It All". Her husband was against the practice but was coerced into taking a second wife by church leaders.
