Is that a contradiction or what? The church is made up of its members. This idea goes against the very idea of what a church is, and therein lies a major flaw in LDS thinking. The New Testament teaches that the Church is the body of Christ, and that faithful individuals are members (parts) of the body. You wouldn't say "my body is perfect, but my arms don't work like they should"

They are stupid for saying that, then boasting about an entirely lay clergy.

Quite right. And even with a "lay clergy" the whole idea that the church isn't supposed be a supreme all-perfect entity ruling over its subjects escapes so many altogether.

Yes. The LDS have their own version of religious language, which I personally think is kind of a dumb move considering how important "proselyting" is.

I've thought the reverse for quite a while:

The church is corrupt, but its members are often trying their hardest.

The members are trying to be perfect.
The church is trying to take advantage of that.

This statement is usually made in conjunction with the theme that endless numbers of members of the church might fall away, as in you, as a member, are so weak and pathetic that we just cant count on you so you need to do much better.

HOWEVER "THE" church at large and THE church's illustrious leadershi-t NEVER needs to do better no matter how poorly they are doing or how poorly a large number of certain individual members are doing, because "THE" church at large is the Lord's work which can NEVER fail or do poorly, as promised by the Lord via His leaders.

(SEE ANY CONFLICT IN THIS ???)

THE Lord's glorious church is made up of members, which may in large part be a real collection of losers, and although God can not interfere with individual's free agency, the Lord MORmON Jesus can also magicly guarantee that His "THE" chruch will never fail in spite of its crappy membership content that is still free to do what ever it chooses. So, apparently the Lord's church could go on to raving success /Suck-Cess with out having a single faithFOOL member remaining in it..... and even thought the Lord's church really doesn't need any members at all, its still very important to try to get as many members as possible....

This point is strenuously emphasized, but it is NEVER really explained because it can not be. Its make as much sense as saying: the wheels may fall off of the car, even every one of them, (so worry about that! because it will be your fault as a member so you'd better do better) BUT the car will never fall off of its wheels, ( so dont even think about criticizing the church, as it has criticized you) because its the Lord's work
( so dont worry about what the stupid ass leader shi-t breathURINE are doing because you as a member are not smart enough to be able to know when they have made a mistake ...... besides the fact that they never make mistakes because the lord would not allow it while also not violating the principle of free agency)

It makes sense ..... to MORmONS!!!

Are we supposed to ignore the founding members' flaws, including adultery, fraud and making the whole thing up?

He is dead so his testimony isn't as true as someone living. My apologies.

"Is the church flawless? No, I have experienced otherwise. Faithful members in every dispensation have experienced otherwise. These things come from flawed people who have yet to understand D&C 121, not from the Lord or His Gospel. Even those people who sit in the red seats are still just people. And as Judas could not diminish the office of Apostle, nor the church by his betrayal, so is the Lord’s church still true, despite what flawed people do within it.

This is true – and this will be true until Christ returns in glory – the gospel of Jesus Christ is not just true, but it works – it functions – it exalts – it binds the ordinances and seals the covenants, and as a result it calls down angels and ministering beings, and lavishes blessings upon those who see past the gears and nuts and bolts and happenings of the church, and looks heavenward at what it is successfully providing for us.

Nothing is missing. When it is time for something else to come from the heavens, it will come, exactly on schedule, and with great power and glory."
