Not impressed. To employ reason to preserve religion and to then employ religion to protect child rapists, preserve death by AIDs, and guarantee the oppression of girls and women worldwide, is morally bankrupt. The Pope is proof that intelligence and integrity can be strangers.

Science isn't a "belief system" because facts are true or false whether they are believed in or not. (I can disbelieve the theories of gravity or evolution and they are still factual). Religion is a belief system. And even the most passionate belief by billions of people cannot make any of them true.

He's the guy who has more fancy dresses, sparkly hats, flowing capes and dazzling jewels than all the Disney Princesses put together. And the guys he works with wear dresses too.

If you do it, definitely have a few friends video, not just you, but the faces of those in the congregation and of the men on the stand. A lot of us would derive vicarious pleasure from seeing that. ;-)

You're using the meeting for an unintended purpose. But as fast and testimony meeting is the only real public forum for Mormons, it seems logical. Are you prepared to be judged as spiritually weak and/or sinful? Regardless, there are likely to be one or two in the congregation that will take strength from your courage.

Your mother seized a "teaching moment". You're within your rights to seize one yourself and tell her how destructive her ways are.

Even the little children know that "study and pray" means read the scriptures and talk to the insides of your eyelids. No church leader -->ever<-- said "gather the best information from the most credible sources; keep an open mind while you study all sides."

I was thinking along those same lines - temple marriage for Gays? Would they re-label the 'bride's room' and the 'groom's room'? I just can't imagine the white-haired temple workers being as congratulatory at the weddings of gay couples.

Not buying! Witch-burning was an issue because the churches used the Bible to sanction the burning of men and women accused of being witches. The Vatican was an enthusiastic beneficiary of the slave trade. Who is calling for justice for the tens of thousands of children raped and assaulted by priests? Not the church. The Mormons, possessors of the Perfect Truth, had no intention of allowi

But those old boys always cave to social and political pressure. In fact, it's the only force that truly moves them. And there is no denying what he says: "...boys and girls in the Church are growing up gay, even when they’ve been raised by loving parents in Gospel-centered homes."

Great response, forestpal -- and funny list, too. My daughter is a cocktail waitress at a high end restaurant. A few weeks ago, our old bishop and his wife came in without reservations and were seated in the lounge. She dreaded that happy-gushy thing that Mormons do but couldn't avoid it. So when they asked how she's been, she laughed and said, "I'm so happy I can't stand it! I wish I had

"...we do not have all information and facts before us as to events we did not actually eyewitness." Her statement infers that when the LDS church does have "information" and "facts" and "eyewitnesses" it incorporates those truths into it's doctrine. This is called "Mormonism's #1 Lie". "...we continue to search for artifacts...&quo

The lie in that excerpt is a classic "Mormon Lie": Only the favorable bits of info, with the unsavory parts extracted = still kinda-sorta the truth (milk).

Your question presumes their priority is your eternal salvation. But the church is just a vast, tax-free corporation. They don't care.

I was proud to finally have them after I got married but I couldn't deny they were as unsexy as hell and I was always embarrassed for my husband to see me in them. It never helped that the Distribution ladies always pushed the too-big sizes on me. Satan prompted me to acquire an "alternative" wardrobe of nighties and under-things (!) Also, I was taught in RS to cut the markings off a

We were doing homework here and one thing led to another and I landed on this from the LDS.org. There is SO much left unsaid: "Soon after the Church was organized, some of the members began to apostatize, or leave the Church. They quit attending Church meetings, opposed the Prophet, and persecuted the Saints. People apostatized for various reasons. For example, one man left the

You gave the finger to the cult of cults (the mission program) and walked away! Whatever part of you that found the courage to take control and break free is who YOU are. You must know how rare that is. Whatever residual guilt and pain you suffer is who THEY are -- that's the best they could give you. I hope you find the peace you deserve and write a book.

That's very sad - I know the feeling of being "invisible" when you're running errands and cross paths with local Mormons (old friends) who knew you first as a member. We've all lost friends who, once they finally understood that going back to the church is NOT an option, abandoned the friendship. I see ex-Mormon and atheist groups all across the country. Find one! Find five! :-) They

There are so many levels of irrationality in this practice. Did you catch the caller "Annie" who muttered something like "just because we're taught that doesn't make it true."

That bit made me think of a UU service I sat in on after I left the church. It was so DEEP! It made me realize how superficial the Mormon "unpaid laity" is.
