Tell them you’re a Freemason. We haven’t had visits from them in years because my husband is one.

I was a Girl Scout. This was in the late 80s. We met at the Methodist church in town. This was in small town Florida. I did 6 years as a Brownie and Junior Cadet. No pushback from the church as far as I am aware of.

My youngest sister just got married at the LDS chapel we grew up going to. They made the cultural hall actually look like a nice place to have a dance. A 4 year old who attended said it looked like a pink Barbie princess palace. The reception had pretty good food, but it was mainly finger food. No dancing except by the bride and groom and bride and dad. We threw rose petals at them as they left.

More applicable to college than the pros, but there is a bit of truth here. On the East Coast, football is a cultural experience. In the Midwest, it's a form of cannibalism. On the West Coast, it's a tourist attraction. And in the South, football is a religion, and Saturday is the holy day. - Marino Casem I was rooting for the Falcons, but alas they had the most dangerous lead in football

BIC here. My father is a life-long member who is very down to earth, my mom joined at 21 just before she married my dad. I grew up in the South surrounded by Southern Baptists, so the Mormons weren't too weird in comparison. My friends did think it was weird I didn't drink sweet tea. I read a lot, but did not really think anything was terribly strange until I left home. After I left home, I did t

My husband loves a good cigar with a either single malt scotch or his favorite bourbon. He loves having those once or twice a week.

My husband, a Freemason, is not happy about this. He has not joined a lodge here in Georgia because of their antiquated ruling on this. He's still a member in Colorado and Florida, who do not have this ruling. Each grand lodge sets the rules for lodges in their jurisdiction. The people who run Freemasons for Dummies are not happy about the grand lodges setting these rulings either. It wil

I have a hard time with satire. It always takes me quite some time to realize what it is. Sarcasm I get most of the time. I had never put it together with growing up Mormon... Interesting thought there.

Reading a new book by a favorite author, spending time with my husband and other family, spending time with friends, sitting on my front porch enjoying gorgeous weather.

Speak with a librarian at your public library. Sometimes, Ancestry is one of the databases you can access for free with your library card. Hope this helps... librarykim2

I spent most of the day at the Magic Kingdom with my best friend and her 3 year daughter. Brutally hot, but a much better use of time than the LDS church.

The root of all evil is women wearing pants. Uber religious conservative nut job had a whole website dedicated to the concept. He especially disliked Katy Perry because she switched from good Christian music to pop.

Check out Sling TV. It lets you get a limited number of channels for a fraction of the price and they have a sports package.

I love live sports too much to give up cable. It's difficult to watch the variety of college sports I like without it. If I didn't love sports so much, we would have cut the cord years ago.

My parents used birth control, but I know many who didn't because of the church. Otherwise, the list is pretty accurate based on what I grew up hearing.

My husband is a Speyside fan as well. He loves the Balvenie double cask that is finished in rum casks. He is also fond of Dalmore 12 yr, Glenfiddich 12, 15,and 18. I'm not a scotch fan myself, but I've learned what he likes. :)

I like kids, but not enough to be a mom 24-7. I enjoy spending time with small people. We work with teenagers in a non church youth group and I'm amazed at how over scheduled most are. They don't have time to just be.

I'm thankful for a quiet thanksgiving - just me and my husband. He works overnights and is sleeping right now. I'm making a large meal so we have leftovers to snack on for the next couple of days. I hope everyone has the kind of thanksgiving they want. I'm also thankful for all the posters here. Y'all provide so much useful info and fun reads.

I'm sorry. I wish I had words of wisdom, but all I can offer is a listening ear (or reading eyes as the case may be.) Your posts are usually delightfully irreverent and I enjoy them immensely. Librarykim2

Wow. I grew up in Florida and we did seminary before school at the church(early 90's). Luckily, I grew up in a small town and the chapel wasn't far from school. Our seminary teacher was pretty cool and made it as fun as possible. I was a junior when they switched programs and got the BoM my senior year for the 2nd time instead of studying the D&C. I was the only seminary student my senio

Pray or read the scriptures can answer almost any question asked in the LDS church. This was my experience in seminary and Sunday school.

My mom is pretty great, but was very uninvolved in my wedding. My friends and work "mom" helped immensely with the planning and execution. Your dress is awesome and I'm jealous. I would have loved to have a strapless dress, but my parents paid for the dress. I was able to get away with thin straps, but had to wear a satin shrug for the wedding. I stripped it off midway thru the rec

I love live sports too much to cut the cable. I'm a huge college football fan and love watching as many games as possible. Watch ESPN is only available online if you have cable or satellite with certain companies. You can't pay for it separately. I've tried. If I could do that, we probably would have cut the cord ages ago.

My dad is a mechanic and he has been bishop twice in the small country ward I grew up in. We were poor growing up, always had enough, but not many extras. Dad worked a lot to support us but he was always involved and we knew he loved us. Other bishops in that ward were a real estate business owner, farmer, and cop.
