Janis has had several sharp turns toward various religious permutations. By my count, it's been bisexual atheist, Mormon twice and at one point Temple-bound, baptist, Catholic, semi-quiverfull, and now she's aligning herself with the most conservative baptist/quiverfull/fundamentalist evangelical/Vision Forum types, in the same range as the Duggars. She'll burn out because it's not a group know

Dittos on the daily and weekly mass! Ash Wed is an esp. important day, and they should have been prepared. I've been to Mass with Mormon co-workers when we worked at a Catholic institution. They handled themselves gracefully and chose to stay in the pews rather than receive a blessing, and no one cared! One was a little surprised when we sang the Our Father with our arms around each other while

The mother did miscarry the baby before she came to term. In a terrible twist of fate, another neighbor and ward member had twins the same day. All 3 babies were girls.

My husband earned his Ph.D. under some of the best Qumran/DSS scholars in the world. The DSS does not provide evidence of BOM, nor does Mormonism have scholars up to the task of scholarly texual criticism. We all have seen plenty of evidence that it's a plagiarism of the flawed Textus Receptus KJV and a product of the folk wisdom of Smith's day. I sometimes tell my husband about some of the

Thank you, Susie. I thought I remembered some of that as well about not needing testing. For a theological question, this seems even more inconclusive than most, but it is similarly confusing in the Protestant tradition.

Ugh, that was my guess from my years of reading here and my years of living in a grad school complex with lots of LDS.

So a bunch of nevermo friends and I know a Mormon family at a Catholic grad school. The wife is pregnant with a child that has a condition that is not compatible with life. The child will die before or shortly after birth. These nevermo moms want to know how Mormon theology (aka made-up nonsense) will apply in this situation so that they know how to respond appropriately and how to help if need

Fundamentalist Evangelical Quiverfull types are more of a concern. Sarah Palin isn't conservative enough for them because she works outside the home. Many don't use any measures to curb fertility, including NFP. They vote heavily, run for elected office, homeschool, and breed militantly.

A TBM woman I know calls what her kids have "late-overs", where everyone goes home at 10pm. I think they're concerned about priesthood holders, i.e., dads and older brothers, getting accused of molestation. I think the Catholic Church scandals have the Mo-thorities very scared. The big question is, however, why it's okay for Boy Scouts to have overnight camping trips, but it's no

I don't think this is common among Conservative Protestant Evangelicals. I think it would be the Bill Gothard-Patriarchy-Quiverfull-Dominionist-types who would be most likely to do this. They're raised in an even more sexually-repressive manner than Mormons by parents who are ferociously breeding. They have no upper limit on spanking children, so it would be conceivable that a woman who is spa

I'm thinking the anticipation of "drama" would be because it's a TLC show. That network looks for opportunities to ramp up the drama or edit the show to highlight conflict, as all reality shows do. The Learning Channel, my ass. It's a network that takes stressed-out families with lots of kids and films them for the voyeuristic entertainment of others. They've done the Duggars, the Go
