Move those cans of wheat was such a pain when my folks moved from Santa Clarita to Huntington Beach in 1977!

Dear wife wants me to come to her upon her passing if I go first and I wish the same if she goes before me. We both dearly miss our parents who left before us. So I'm hoping there is something of our sentient consciousness after death. The only thing I know for sure is that we both want our bodies cremated and our ashes sprinkled in the ocean off a particular beach we dearly love.

Thank you for sharing your story, Flash. It’s a very well written narrative of the last day of your mission and the deep feelings you experienced as you began to reclaim your life. I’m so sorry about your wife’s passing. Keith Argentina Bs As South Mission 1975-1977

Me too. My introversion played a big part in my life experience. I'm so glad I found this board in 2003 when I needed it the most. In addition, meeting Cheryl and her husband in person really bolstered my resolve to resign in 2004.

Same story: unimpressive GPA but RM so I got in. I have to wonder what my path might have been otherwise. I would have stayed in Southern California and likely attended College of the Canyons and CSUN or CSULB. I did attend CSULB after the Army for my teaching credential. Great experience there.

A photographer friend was on the beach with friends. She said that no one in her group panicked. If it was headed their way, there wasn't enough time. Instead they "sat, shooting, laughing, and making the most of what may have been our last moments on earth." She also made a few calls, spoke to her daughters, and told them she loved them.

At first I thought, "How do you extricate yourself from a winter parka with a broken zipper? What all would it prevent you from doing?" What a dilemma! For some reason, I was also thinking about how Ralphie got stuck in his snowsuit in "A Christmas Story." Anyway, I'm glad no one was unintentionally seduced. Getting unstuck should have been a mirthful moment for sure!

As I posted above, I did a stint for Uncle Sam as a Korean linguist though I'd served a mission in Argentina Buenos Aires South (1975-1977). I'm happy to report that I just retired as a secondary school Spanish teacher after thirty years of junior high and high school teaching in both California and Utah. After leaving military service, I immediately started teaching, as I had a bachelor's

I studied Korean at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. I did really well in school, graduated with honors and scored a 2 on the DLPT (Defense Language Aptitude Test). As a linguist out of college, I already had three additional languages under my belt. I scored 4 in Spanish, 3 in Italian, and 2 in Portuguese. Why did I choose Korean, you ask? It paid a nice bonus and the Army needed K

"And somewhere between the time you arrive and the time you go May lie a reason you were alive but you'll never know.." As time goes on, I realize that we're all on the same course; we're just experiencing life in different stages. Do some of you remember being "Sunbeams" in Sunday School? I used to turn around and see the older kids behind me and wish I was a bigger k

Good job, Amyjo. I knew about Jean Baptiste but I'd never seen the BY quotes. Did you also know about John C. Fremont and Kit Carson's visit to "Disappointment Island" or the Judge Wenner story?

On the news, there was some amazing footage of the wind and rain in front of the state park office. It sits right above the south arm of the Great Salt Lake and White Rock Bay. The real structural damage was at Fielding Garr Ranch on the southeast side if the island, where it tore the roof off the historic sheep sheering barn. I'm curious what happened to the small buildings on top of Beacon Knob

We were about half way through Sully when the power went out. In front of the theater, there were a lot of broken trees. We tried to drive up Hill Field Road to pick up our grandson from a school activity. There were so many broken trees in front of the high school. Another grandchild was at a football game when the wind and hail hit. We saw a picture of the storm wall approaching. It was truly a

The week I left, Frankie Valli's "My Eyes Adored You" was #1, Olivia Newton-John's "Have You Never Been Mellow" was #2, and Styx's hit "Lady" was #3. March 8, 1975.

I think "culture" is the glue that holds so many people inside TSCC. For some, it takes a major policy change to break free.

Congratulations on a successful extrication with your marriage intact. My worst fear in resigning (2004) was that my wife would leave me. Happily, we've remained together. We're celebrating our 39th anniversary this month.

A couple of strangers just knocked on my door and introduced themselves by name only. I asked who they were, fully expecting that they represented some other church or they just had a mistaken address. As soon as I knew their identity I told them who I am, an exmormon of many years. One tried to tell me I was still on the records and I informed him that I had officially resigned over ten years ag

Well written, Bruce. You did your homework in a big way. I remember saying to my wife, bishop, or stake president that I can't unlearn what I've learned. My bishop said, be sure to give the scriptures equal time. I told him that I would have to study the other side of the story for forty years to be fair. My SP asked me about testimony I had shared in the high council (1999-2002). I told

I have 90 minutes to chug 1000 mL of water with contrast before a CT. Oh, the pain. I should have opted for a colectomy last summer. They gave a little morphine but I still hurt. :(

"Haole" is a person who is not a native Hawaiian, especially a white person. The bishop was haole by that definition. In the 2000 census, the local area was 67% Asian and 12% Pacific Islander.
